Are you a NEW to maintaining computers? Try this, if I can do it, you surely can. It’s so easy!
If your CPU/Case is OVERHEATED you can follow these simple steps, which I bet everyone can do.
STEP 1 Check if your CPU/Case is overheated.
a. Keep your palm on the case. Does it feel warm? It shouldn’t! Even I was of the perception that if you run you computer for hours it is bound to become warm at least, if not hot. This is a myth! Your case should never get even warm.
b. You may not be able to make out by(a) in fact it may sound funny to you. Never mind, download the software MOTHERBOARD Monitor(It’s free. Contact me if you can’t find it on the net). It shows you your CPU & Case Temperature. If after running your computer for one hour at full CPU usage(Play any normal quality game like Max Payne, check your CPU usage in Task Manager-XP, it should be 100%) your CPU temperature rises above 55°C(it’s the average; mostly different for different kind of CPUs) or your Case rises above 40°C you need to do something.
c. Your computer switches itself off suddenly(just turns off; doesn’t shut down) while the green LED light is still on. Also the fans stop moving. Mostly indicates overheating of CPU/Case.
STEP 2 If you fulfill any condition stated above do the following:
Open the case. Take a painting brush. Brush up the dust accumulated on the CPU Fan and the Power Supply Fan. Don’t try to open the Heat sink above the CPU if you don’t know how to do it. This may seem a trifle to you but trust me the dust on the fans is what hampers the cooling system inside the Case. If possible add an extra fan.
Not opening the Heat Sink to clean will obviously leave some dust inside the heat sink. However, if you clean the fans and all the dust inside the case, the temperature can be brought under control. To further decrease the temperature you need to do techie things which I will not recommend since I assume that you are a new to maintaining computers.
FINAL PIECE OF ADVICE: After cleaning the fans and the case turn on the computer once for 5 mins without the side cover of the case. So that the dust blown by the fans, when they first start after the cleaning, doesn’t stay inside the Case.
