All of us would have seen / patronized the shady furniture stores alongside the Link Road at Bangur Nagar(Malad - west) and few places at Andheri.
These offer you customized furniture at a highly subsidized price as compared to any brand.
To start off, they pander to our greed and entice one to skip the bill as that will add 10.5% taxes which we don’t want to pay, so what we have with us us a piece of paper with some handwritten details.
Payment is majorly in advance, that too cash, so we are totally at their mercy once we have paid up - the product ends up being slip shod, with pathetic finish and quality as the stuffing will get lumpy/compressed within a year of use or just fall apart. I think, these are refurbished items or if at all new, contain odds and ends with cut pieces inside, hidden under a thin layer of new foam, which gives way in a few days of use.
Since they all are from a particular community known for their volatile temperament, you can’t even go across and raise a ruckus.
May be best to just boycott them and wait for annual sales / offers from reputed stores/brands for your furniture requirements.
