Sensationalisation

It is said  that the Indian media is the most democratic and powerful. But what is the media doing with its power? Why is it that a celebrity couple’s daughter gets

half a page in the main newspaper and a full headline when there are more pressing mattres to deal with? Why have the more important issues been given a backseat?

The media is sensationalising every small thing. When Rahul Mahajan was admitted to the hospital, one could see media persons swarming all over the place and this was the time when our young doctors were dying of hunger in the scorching sun. What deserves   more attention- a politician’s spoilt son or a burning issue which could destroy the careers of   thousands of   meritorious students?

Now do the public need to tell our ’responsible’ journalists what is more important to the country and what is not? There is absolutely no need for the media to give so much footage to unimportant matters like David Beckham’s fourth child or Amitabh Bachhan’s glasses. We do not thrive on spiced up news nor do we expect  it to present us with painetd opinions on not so vital issues. The media should not misuse its prowess to increase viewership and readership. This will be unfair for and detrimental to the public which has entrusted the fourth estate with the power it has.
