So what made me to write a review on this topic? Well before monsoon really started I always used to think the state of city roads be4 say 5-10 years. The quality of roads had become good with fewer potholes compared to the old ones thanx to the municipal corporation. But after the recent downpours in the city, the state of the roads beneath has come up just as the true face appears when water washes the make-up away.
To say it has been some bad news for Municipal Corporation becoz the rains have created what we call as ?Bhuas? (i.e. Roads breakdown and a huge crater is created beneath the tar-road which can accommodate many cars in it) and a lot of problems have been created for the people here. Second reason is that it had been a long time since I wrote a rvu. Ok I know I am going off-topic so let me give u some General Safety Tips for Driving on normal conditions and especially in monsoons. So here we go..
Follow Traffic Signals and Sense as well:
The first and foremost rule to a safer drive is to follow Traffic rules (which many don?t follow). Follow the signals and if u see any evacuated signal w/o traffic police never try to break it becoz others are following it. This is a common practice in Abad that whenever u don?t see a traffic cop around bend the rules and the signals as well and go as u want which will surely lead u to an accident. So please follow the traffic signals.
Stay Away from Stray Animals:
Cows, Buffaloes, Dogs?No this isn?t any animal names class I am just recalling the stray animals I see on the city roads and how to avoid them. Whenever u see a stray animal on road from far away do lower down ur speed as u go nearer. Make sure u cross the animal from a distance becoz u never know when and in what way it would go on the road so lower ur speed and blow horn to maybe notify it that u r coming (although it wouldn?t make much of a difference to it..)
Buses, AutoRickshaws, Cyclists, Pedestrians :
Although its not to good to comment on the local transport bus becoz it runs and transports under any circumstances but this is for the person driving the bus. To be on a safe side always keep a safe distance from any Bus. And if the bus is nearing its stand then always be on the opposite side at a distance becoz its not the people?s duty to see what is coming from behind when they get off, its ur duty to have a watch for them and have safety for them. Got it?
Rickshawala?s how do I forget them. How can I forget that even if the rickshaw has got the indicator system the rickshawala never bothers to glow the indicator but he very simply and peacefully drops his foot out and turns whenever he wishes. Or when he is just a few feet away from the turning he will show his hand with a warm gesture and turn with a cut.. so the bottom-line is always do keep a watch on the three-wheeler to save ur money on the garage work of ur vehicle.
Cyclists. I will tell u one incident what had happened with me. One day I was going back home from college (noon time I think). One cyclist was riding his cycle in the middle of the road. I just honked him and told to drive on one side so that it would be safe for him. He thought I was telling becoz I wanted to overtake him and told me I have kept both sides of the road open for u. U go on from whatever side u want that is why I am riding on the center!!!!!. Some of the cyclists think they are the king of the road and they donot even move even if u blow ur horn at the highest possible decibel level. Watch out for the twists and turns of the cyclists else u will have to pay for it..
Pedestrians: Tell me one thing is it the person?s crossing or walking on the road duty to watch out for the traffic approaching or is it the traffic?s duty to watch out and wait for the person to do whatever he wants on the road. The obvious answer u would suggest would be the former one. But this is not the case here. Here we have to watch out for the pedestrians to cross the road even if there is heavy traffic. The limit is some pedestrians at signals donot even bother to look that the green signal is on and cross the road. Even if u honk they will still cross the road thinking as if we are testing our vehicle?s horn.
Safety Tip: To avoid collision with pedestrians always blow ur horn from a distance to notify them about u. Lower ur speed and if the pedestrian is half-way down the road just show the direction from which u will be crossing him/her from a distance by slightly moving ur vehicle in left or right direc. so that the person comes to know from which direc. are u going to cross.
Haila meri gf ka fone aaya ab kya?
Cellphones are as important to us as anything?but life too is important..not urs but other?s too. So avoid cellphone usage in traffic and if it is very important for u to take a call have a handsfree kit along. But the safer solution would be to go at the side of the road, stop ur vehicle, have a talk on the cell and get back to the traffic after completion.
Common Tips:
=>Always have seat-belts on. Not a compulsion in Gujarat but it is in most of the states.
=>Always wear a Helmet while driving a 2 wheeler.
=>Always have a rear-view mirror in ur vehicle be it 2 or 4 wheeler.
=>Always have indicators blinking from a comparable distance whenever u r about to take a turn. And in case of 2 wheelers always off the blinkers after u take a turn.
=>Make a habit to avoid speeding in city traffic. Avoid racing with other vehicles to prove that u r the king of the road.
=>Always have Parking lights on whenever u park ur 4 wheeler at the side of the road.
=>Avoid short braking to save ur vehicle?s tail.
=>Lastly but importantly Follow the traffic rules.
=>Never Overtake on Bridges and avoid overtaking from the wrong side. Always use ?dipper? while ur overtaking so that the driver on the opposite sides knows u r coming on his side.
Monsoon Tips:
=>Always drive on the center of the road in the rains to avoid the ?Bhua?s? thing.
=>Always have a helmet on.
=>In case its raining do have ur vehicle?s ?dim? light on so that other can see u in case of less visibility.
=>Never try to overtake when it is raining becoz ur vehicle may skid off the wet road.
=>Always blow horn incase u r overtaking.
=>Avoid going through puddles but in case there is no alternative always try to go through the center so that there is a slightest of road visible or follow the path other riders follow while going through the puddle.
=>In no case go nearer to any vehicle when its raining becoz if the vehicle before u brakes suddenly u may not be able to respond to the sudden braking and may bash from behind.
