Rotterdam Moves...


The Cultural Capitol Rotterdam is inviting you, to visit the National Immigration Museum.


One of the largest attractions of the Cultural Capitol Rotterdam can be found in New York.


To be precise, in the National Immigration Museum, on Ellis Island.


A piece of history is shared, between the United States and The Netherlands.


In six rooms, the history of the European emigrants is shown, and you can also see what role Rotterdam had in this. Rotterdam was the last European city, the emigrants saw, before they took the trip, to the other side of the ocean.


Images of Old Rotterdam, and Delfshaven, information about the Holland – America line, and the development of the Rotterdam harbour are guiding people to Rotterdam how it is now.


Now, Rotterdam is a multi-cultural city, attracting immigrants itself. The renewals in the city makes Rotterdam an attractive city to visit as well.


The exhibition is in the National Immigration Museum, to be seen from June 20 to September 30. If you have the chance, to go there, you’ll see a little piece of the history of one of my forefathers as well; my great – great – grandfather set foot on Ellis island in 1907. Sixty nine years old, he was, when he came to the States. Four of his children stayed in The Netherlands, and four went with him, to America. They did find their luck in the New World…
