What would you expect a future advertiser to say about ads?? well.. exactly what the title says!
On a serious note, I think one of the biggest ailments which has gripped us in today’s times is this addiction to tv (again a biased bookreader’s view)... and worse that monkeyish enthu to rush to the remote the moment there is a break.. somehow I have always felt that the ads are much better than the programming gurb of most channels!
Talking about good ads, remember the old lalithaji one..or kal bhi aaj bhi of VIP or the more recent aamir khan-coke ad??..there is this little smile-in the corner of ur mouth or oh yeah she/he sounds like me feeling, which is essential to like an ad. if only marketers who spend huge bucks understood it..sighh..
if u want to know which one’s to watch in today’s commercials, there are quite a lot of them to pick up frm and some of them are really nice too.To start with, I would strongly advice u to just keep an eye during commercial breaks coz u might stumble upon a few gems.
The most important criteria if u xpect to watch a good ad is also the programme u r watching..if u r watching the ’k’ wala soaps just dont xpect to c some suuperkewl int’l brand..u wud mostly come across the cooking oil and washing machine ads.Star world, HBO and Star news are some channels where I see loadsa good ads ( though I just wonder who watches them ;) )
Somehow I have found ads which are aired during cricket matches to be largely good..remember the fevicol wala ones and the LG and Samsung ads?? they are a must for any ad buff. with world cup round the corner, am sure the quality of the ads will also increase..
if u really arent patient enuff to sit and watch all programmes to get to c few good ads (?!) here are the quickfire steps to identify good ones..
First decide on the kinda product that wud interest you...if u r passionate about soft drinks recent coke ads are a must..pepsi has traditionally been good, but they are being plain so so recently...motorbikes and jewellary(nakshatra, oyzterbay..) are some few more products where good ad’s are shown nowadays..
if u dig celebrities..the palio ad showing schumacher or any of the sachin or Shah rukh ads are good..i wud just NOT recommend oldies ads like the one of pataudi or gavaskar..u cant tolerate the agony of seeing our yesteryrs heroes looking so hagard!(this includes amitabh-parker ads too!)
surprisingly some of the best ads are in arbit categories, like the M-seal ad or even the ariel husband ad.
The definite no nos are the tea advertisements (where husband becomes super hero after drinking wife’s chai!) and the saree ads..
all kids ads are enjoyable...big big babool or sabse strongest my teeth..they are soo cute!
I just hope I didnt make u more confused as to which ones to watch with this much gyaan!
ultimately liking ads is very subjective and idiosyncratic..just pick up that silly thingy remote and keep watching only commercial breaks (only when noone’s ard at home dodos!) and who knows, u might even be humming ’saadee pe saadee parag!!
