High Five, Low five

During the past 15 days, I was literally stuck in front of the idiot box watching cricket and finally it ended in a compromise yesterday ruining my 15 days!(Boo-Hoo).

All my frustration is not about the matches ending in a shared trophy. It is about the advertisements which we have all been forced to see again and again and again at the end of each and every over! By now, even in my sleep, I can repeat word to word lingos and jingles of coke, pepsi, ac black, hero honda ambition, kwik cream, lawman jeans et al.

However, as consumers of all these products, we are paying 25% of the MRP towards advertising (Source- AC Nielsen) and we deserve a mud sling at them if the ad’s are’nt up to the mark.

According to my research, these are some of the best and worst ad’s ever made during the recent period.

WORST

> AC Black- I am fed up of watching the censored cleavage of this girl! What I can’t understand is the relationship between clothes coming off and drinking some stupid apple juice! I am a non-alcoholic and even if I had’nt been one, I would never have drunk this brand just for the stupidity of the Ad.

> VIP Frenchie- Another dumb idea- girls wearing helmets and falling over after watching some junkie exercising in the out with a frenchie on! What a waste!!

> Pepsi world cup campaign- Hey, I like pepsi ads generally as I like pepsi. However, the whole essence of the ad is lost when the whole running time of the Ad is spent on a cup! After paying 4 crores each to shahrukh, kareena and fardeen, they have been wasted in the Ad. No marks, pepsi.

> Hero Honda desh ki dhadkan- Hey, no doubt, the ad is enjoyable to watch. But, what is the purpose of it? Not hrithik playing cricket and saurav dancing! Where does the hero honda brand image fit int between all this, especially when we guys are forking out a ransom to pay those two!

> Lawman jeans- No sense in the ad. why is everyone staring? and the whole ad does’nt have a connection amongst itself.

> Westside apparel- This is forcing cricketers into ads zabardasti! The whole ad is a loser and ruins yuvraj’s star reputation. If only he is to endorse the products, use him elsewhere and not on a cricket pitch! And the change of wardrobe on the field is absurd! Not expected out of a tata house!

BEST

> Coca Cola Aamir khan campaign- Coke made ridiculous ad’s earlier. This one is a bombshell. The rusty aamir with those 3 cute girls and pailing out coke from a well is a genius. Full marks, Coke.

> SET Max deewana Bana de- Out of the 3 campaigns that they have, the one of the malayali girl making a rangoli of a cricket pitch along with chanting of the cricketers is too good! truly deewana bana de!

> Hamara Bajaj- Their new campaign of showing the new trend of India and the newer projection of Bajaj into the market is a winner! Nayi bharat ki nayi tasveer, the changed lingo is apt and so is the filming, respecting elders etc. Great Job..

> Nescafe- Truly one of the most refreshing ad’s and it has been so for a long long time. The jingle gets full marks. Each ad also has been made without losing focus of the product. Especially, the recording studio ad. Superb

> Airtel Rahman Campaign- One of the best ad’s ever made. This is what I was talking about when I was discussing the Pepsi Ad. Airtel also has roped in a star here and surely would have paid him a ransom to give us the tune. It sure is catchy! But, they have never lost focus of the product or service! Inserting the cell phone into the mike was genius! Full marks, Airtel. Keep up the good work.

Note- These are not all time ratings. As I said, each of these ad’s has been rubbed deep into our skulls during these 15 days and hence, these are what come to mind immediately. M2M’s welcome.

Ad Makers, Dont grow up to thums up yaar (that again is one of the most foolish ad’s ever made, just to spark off a controversy and pepsi responding with grow up tonic is sheer stupidity and immaturity personified), grow up to the viewers taste!
