Yes, Ive had my share of poor attention in hospitals; then again Ive had some good experiences. Today was one of them.
Three weeks ago, I wrote telling about going to see the Orthopaedist about my ankle that has been in very bad shape lately.
Well, I was x-rayed and it was ascertained that my foot and and ankle bones are stressed and that walking over on the side of my foot all these years has helped to cause the stress. That and arthritic/osteo probs.
After X-rays, the doc ordered my in to see the foot doctor -he has a guy with him on Tuesdays who makes shoes and builds up existing shoes to correct problems.
Mr. Foster, the shoe builder, took an impression of my lame foot and made a mould so he would know exactly how my foot would sit if I were able to keep it straight.
Today I went to try out the insert, thinking - oh! oh! Im going to come limping home without my shoes on - this is going to be a nightmare, Im sure!
Well, I was pleasantly surprised.
John Foster put the insert in my right shoe and I put my foot in it. I then got up to see if I could walk.
I floated down the hall and demanded of a woman sitting in a chair by the wall - am I limping? She didnt know me and had no reason to lie - no, you are not limping, said she - I wish I walked as well as you.
The insert has given the foot just the lift it needed - also it has made up for that wee bit of shortness on the leg.
What I found today was that not only could I walk with my foot straight, in comfort, I was also able to move fluidly, using my hips and legs, rather than stressing out the whole of my body.
As I walked, I could feel every part of my body, shifting into place, fluidly moving in tune with my new feet.
I feel two inches taller and ten years younger tonite.
If you are ever advised to have this done, go for it - its worth it.
Thanks to the docs at St. Josephs Health Centre in Toronto, Canada and their great shoe builder!
I left the hospital today, feeling like Id received treatment! Treatment I really did need!
