The Best Call Centres according to me are as follows:
Slash Support India, Chennai Pros: Most open mature work environment with excellent pay, Cons: Tamil speaking public in office.
GE, Hyderabad Pros: Extremely outgoing and fun variety in work, very close to being No 1 Cons: Low pay and not suited for people with distinct indian tastes. Slightly narcisstic culture
Sutherland Global( http://www.suth.com) Pros:commensurate pay packages, professional work ethics. Cons: Rigid school boy work culture, immature staff.
Some of you there might argue that there is no such thing as a best call centre, considering that call centres have the worst in store for most candidates cos not all scale the heights of the management ladder. This article is more a tribute to the hard working call center executives who slog their buxx out taking calls. The job is definitely stressfull due to the following factors:
1., Long night hours. Lets admit it even though the work hours are roughly 9 hours travelling to and fro and settling down and out of the job should considerably increase it to an average of 12 working hours, the time it takes to wind out of the nights blues. You can ask any call center executive and he will talk about the dreams he gets where is still taking calls. Its very difficult to unwind after long conversations and it takes a toll on your mental health. You have to be either thickskinned enought not to take the customers too seriously or have a tough solid mind in tackling their problems.
- First Project Blues Call center jobs being short termed mostly can have immense learning curves to break. Every project has its own processes to be followed so if you happen to shift projects within the call center industry you will find the training taking a toll on your abilities. Taking the first call in any new assignment or project is very stressful because -firstly you are trying to keep track of hundresds of processes to be followed in mind -you are taking this call again after a long time -You get evaluated and call monitored by geeks. So its a very tough call on you considering that you will make a lot of mistakes. -The first few days are considered to be the most stressful periods considering that most call centers are filled with Team Leads without a conscience.
3.Agents are worst hit
A cursory financial study of the call center industry shows the following results - The agent is the bread and butter of the industry - The Team Leads and Managers are dispensable and more cost prone. -The agents are the worst paid compared to the management and it should be the reverse.
4.2.5 times harder
Working in night shift especially if your not the night types can be 2.5 times as difficult as doing the same job in the day time
5.Deserving candidates few
The rewards are few and far in this industry where getting noticed is very difficult and you have to be really outstanding to get somewhere. Add some bad luck and you could be nowhere and even going down. Cant say about the rest.
