Ghaath- which means an assault.
I was well prepared to let this movie make a major assault on my sensibilities .. but hey I was surprised by it.
Its not such a bad movie after all , if one can overlook the debutante director aakaashdeeps obssesion with his lady love sheba.
I mean other than her rather unrequired cameo which is thrust upon us poor viewers, I found quite a lot of good points in the movie.
First and foremost - Manoj Bajpai.
this guy is just such a joy to watch . all his emotions of the character that he is playing are very well recieved by his facial expressions and his mannerisms. only watching him makes the movie worthwile. his vulnerabilty when he fails the test to become inspector, his helplessness while watching his friends all beaten up... all in all this guy is simply amazing. kudos to him for his performance.
Second in the list of reasons to watch the movie would be - aakashdeep- the director.
his no nonsense approach [ barring the sheba factor] and his straightforward way of narrating the movie makes his direction interesting. Its as if he knows that his is a regular violent samaj ki samasyaayein type of movie and he has not ridiculed that concept by trying to put in some vague masala type scenes in it. although the loud and brash cameo of johnny lever could have been avoided. but I guess that johnny lever is more of a lucky mascot in a movie rather than having any intrinsic value at all.
Tabu is strictly ok - and stereotyped bold lawyer. nothing impressive . but her cleavage , which she has readily shown, is sure something to look at :)
all in all despite having an oft repeated storyline, watching ghaath was quite a reasonable experience.
