Emotive yet a prudent tale

The plot revolves around a 7 year old mathematics prodigy Mary and her uncle Frank Adler who share a very candid relationship with each other. Frank, keeping in mind his sister’s upbringing which led to her abandoning her daughter and her life, makes some decisions regarding the schooling and lifestyle of Mary. When the potential of Mary is realized by the Head of Mary’s school, they suggest Frank to send her to the schools for the gifted. When Frank disregards her advice, she contacts Mary’s grandmother which leads to a battle of custody between Frank and her mother. The movie brings an emotional angle showing what a child requires for a proper growth irrespective of theme being normal or so called’gifted’.

Chris Evans who plays Frank illuminates the movie with his fresh and raw acting. Mckenna Grace who plays Mary is breath of fresh air portraying the role perfectly as a talented brat who is empathetic and sarcastic. The chemistry between them is what makes the movie rolling. Lindsay Duncan who plays Evelyn( grandmother of Mary) stays true to her role and gives a decent performance.

The music is rustic and doesn’t play a central role in bringing out the sentiments of the movie but the performances by the actors overshadows these details.

The man behind the camera has actually accentuated the feelings and thoughts that the actors have projected. The lighting and the execution of each scene has been done beautifully.
