Bad to Worse

This is a sick place to work.


Every word said in 2005/2006/2007 by other friends holds true even today. Hence I will not comment on salary structure etc. The treatment of expats is getting from bad to worse. The appointment letter is just a piece of paper and nothing else. Those who take your interview and made tall commitments in India will not even listen to you and turn their face when meet you on the way mostly.


There is no authority who will even listen to you. The top officials CEO/ ED/ Directors etc either do not meet you on your personal issue or shout back when asked about commitments on appointment letter.


The HR is non-existent and admin is extremely arrogant and inconsiderate


Mostly asked to buy your own computer, even furniture, dustbin, stationary etc as company doesnt provide these many a times. They provide meagre housing allowance ( 1.2 mn Naira pa) which is not even sufficient to buy a servent room. Further even this money is not given upfront rather on special approvals. The approving authority is chairman who is invisible and inaccessible to all including interviewer.


Company gives a damn where you stay and what you go through robberies, mugging, accidents etc they dont care. Instead the company creates more hardships for you to endure till they provide safe if not suitable accomodation and Car after at least 6 months to 2 years.


Salaries are 3 months late and taxable in local ( 26.5% ) The actual tax is 10.5% on total salary.


Indians are cheap labour over local employees except few at the top


Not worth the risk on personal safety with one of the worst employers


The compaqny is a cheat, thug and can deduct, hold, stop, confiscate your salary at will without reason or any explanation. The local bank account can be freezed as it belongs to the same group.


The mgmt is incompetent, and irresponsibile The telecom practices and rules do not apply.


Dont be swayed by intellectualism of interviewer Indian or Nigerian


If you choose to go still following are suggestions


1 Do not resign from existing employer take a leave instead or keep another option at hand


2 Demand return tickets from the company definately do not agree to go at your own expense or promise of reimb. The reimb is given after four months.


3 Do not settle for anything less than $ 150000 pa


4 Do not take your family as company doesnt provide security to self, family and children


Very few people are able to take their family due to irresponsible behavior of globacom. Hence if money makes you think about joining Glo, you are likely to be away from your family for at least six months to one year.


5 Ask them to give you accomodation immediatelty as accomodation is very very expensive 4 mn -5 mn naira at least in a safe place. Add to this another 1.5 mn naira towards maintainence and furnishing. Hence dont fall in trap of 1. 2 mn naira allowance that is being offered. You may only get a servent qtr or you have to pool with five or six people to stay single. The sanctions are difficult to take as no one is authorised to take this decision except Chairman, Mike Adenuga. Best is seek furnished accomodation by company itself with out any allowance.


6 The Indian school is at least 30 kms away and in absence of Car the child goes through tremendous hardship and virtually impossible to persue education. The taxis are very bad and risky to travel and there is no company transport to take children to school.


7 With these committments if given, go to Nigeria to see if these look feasible in first 10 days or else comeback to your employer


8 Do not agree to be posted out of Lagos ( Nigeria). Glo is seeking recruits for countries outside Nigeria in west Africa . Without company support it is extremely difficult to survive in difficult conditions where survival will be at the cost of personal safety.


9 Remember 80% employees leave Glo with in 3-4 months of joining the company Its not a cake walk trust me


10 Lastly you will be lucky and blessed if your hard earned money ( 2-3 month $ salary) gets credited to your account if you choose to leave without notice ( mostly candidates leave like that)


Personally speaking stay back here you have ample of opportunities here to make money in India


You may make good money in expat salary but at risk to personal security, away from your children and family ( Glo doesnt care), tremendous hardship inflicted by Glo.
