There are lots of people in Mumbai who feel that GO 92.5 FM plays JUNK English music and hardly any Hindi songs, but guys, ever had the thought that there actually ARE people who prefer listening to English songs to Hindi ones?
Yep, guessed it right, yours truly is one of them.
If anyone has followed the kind of music being played on all the almost a year old FM channels, it will be observed that most of the radio stations have shifted from playing English and Hindi songs to only Hindi ones.Sure, this does reflect the general preferences of the listeners.No harm in that.The radio stations are out there to do business apart from providing us with entertainment in the form of music.
When it first started out, GO 92.5 would play only international music, that too the not-so-popular and somewhat bizarre songs, the ones rarely known to listeners in the city(or am I the only one who felt that?).Now however, GO 92.5 FM plays the kind of music that is amazing, comprising of 75% English and 25% Hindi.And I am not saying this because its the ONLY radio station that plays Western music.It is truly the best, in every sense.
Lets talk about the shows.
-Starting with Good Morning Mumbai, hosted by Tarana.
-Glen taking it through The Mid-Day Show from 11 am to 1 pm(in case ya all didn’t know, GO 92.5 FM is a product of Mid-Day Multimedia Limited).
-Then there’s a totally different show called Dabba Servicehosted by Glenn, specially meant for the working crowd i.e.office goers can call Glenn and make any requests/dedications to some colleague or simply send a message to that pretty one across the hall, saying Hi!
-Followed by this, there’s Malini(earlier an RJ with Win 94.6 FM) on 225, consisting of various sections like Kuchicoo Corner(solving your love problems), Lets Go Play(where the online caller gets a chance to win some goodies by playing games), College Top 5, Birthday Bumps etc.Real fun-filled stuff, topped with great music.
-Evenings are set with Jak and Jaggu at Horn Ok Please, where they select a topic for the evening and take callers thereafter, Jaggu entertaining the listeners with his wisecrack comments and funny jokes...a good way to spend your evening in case you are stuck in the traffic.
-At 8pm, its time to make your request for your favourite songs on Local Vocal, where Savio takes calls from listeners who have a message for some near and dear ones, or simply from those who want to listen to a song of their choice on-air.Listeners can also SMS their requests.Local Vocal continues till 11 pm, after that its retro time, where the BEST of retro music is played till 1 am.(this is my favourite)
Recently they have introduced what is called as Bacardi Breezer Vivid Nights where every Friday and Saturday night, the listeners are in for 3 hours of non-stop club hits.Malini also dopes the listeners with nightlife news .Specially targeted at the party loving crowd and those who are not the party types, but who like to have a blast sitting at home.
-On weekends in the afternoon, there’s Ravi, Savio and Malini who play some funky music and just chill-out.Aimed at people who are lazing about in the weekends.
-Every hour, there’s a segment called City Scan where Chris briefs the listeners about the buzz in sports, news and stocks throughout the day.
-Every Sunday, Malini and Savio host Mumbai’s Top 20 countdown chart, where the music just gets better and better!There’s also an International Top 10
About the RJ’s, all of them are doing a great job at RJing, great voices and loads of humour and wit.I guess that says it all about the RJs.
The interaction between the listeners and RJs shows the degree of popularity of the station.The requests are duly acknowledged and the in case you ever try to call up any of the shows to speak on air, you might get lucky more than once!!Regulars will know how difficult this normally is with radio stations flooded with calls from thousands of listeners.
Conclusion
To sum it up, there’s not a single flaw I can find with GO 92.5...if listening to Western music is your kinda thing, what are you waiting for, Go 92.5!!!!
