GOLMAAL HAI BHAI SAB GOLMAAL HAI!!! Yeow! - Then Suniel is looking everywhere to find out where the sound is coming from... Ha ha ha...
A wonderful scene from Hera Pheri. It made me wonder, what that song is from, but every time that scene occurred, I just laugh my head off since it sounded so funny. I ask my mom where is that from? And she says, oh its a great film by Amol Palekar, we should rent it one day...

And so I did, after watching Junoon [please see my review], I decided to put this movie on. Golmaal happens to be one of the best comedy entertainers ever. The picturization of songs, titles and cinematography is very similar to Rekhas Khoobsurat, another great comedy film. Both directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and dialogue/lyrics written by Gulzar. The best comedy team ever.
Smart one-liners about general topics, there were no cheap, dirty jokes, just clean family fun of how many people lie to get what they want.
Catchy songs by R.D. Burman are stuck in your head and you want to yell out to some people GOLMAAL HAI BHAI SAAB GOLMAAL HAI!... but then people will think you are a lunatic and then may take you to the mental hospital... Im checkin in!!!

It starts off with showing the football match and then the title song comes on along with the credits. You see Amol and his friends singing at a party. Watch their hand motions and their expressions while singing the song. So funny.. GOOOOLLL?? MAAAAAAAALLLLL!
After the party, Amol comes home and tells his sister, Ratna about the party and then Ratna tells him that their Maternal Uncle or DOCTOR MAMA came over to tell the results of his class, and only 15% has passed. Uh oh.. Amol thought... he was quite concerned if he passed or not. Ratna was quite concerned too... But both of them decides not think about it.
Doctor Mama comes in the next day, and Ratna tells him that Amol went to see his marks. Amol comes in all sad, and said only 12% has passed... But he claims that he was one of the 12%! Whoohoo! Wheres the Narial ki Ladoo?
Doctor Mama tells Amol, that there is a great job for him with good money, and then tells him all the things the boss likes to see in the employee...
To wear a Kurta Shalwar
To work all day, and having to accomplish it
Young people not into Music/Cinema/Dance/Sports/Western Clothing/Fooling Around
Wet Hair (More like gelly)
Traditional Hindustani
MOUSTACHE!
The boss is Bhavani Shankar played by Utpal Dutt -[ My God, he was the best in this movie. So sad we have lost a talented actor. ]
So basically, Amol does all the things to please his boss. He gets the job with full priority but one day he almost loses his job when his boss catches him at the match game skipping work. (Bhavani hates people who likes sports/music/dance/films instead of work and only like a person who has a moustache [Except for women] - lol)
Amol, being Ram Prasad Dasharath Prasad Sharma and Laxman (Lucky) Prasad had to do double roles to please both of his boss and the daughter, Urmila Played by Bindiya Goswami.. It is sure hanky-panky for one to go through all this... Amol by day is Ram, Bhavanis employee and by night is Lucky, Urmilas music teacher and a special friend. Urmila falls in love with the way Lucky is, totally opposite of R.P.D.P Sharma.
Please forgive me for not going into too much detail, Im pretty sure many people know the story here. But trust me, this is one movie you wont regret, a great 2 and a half hour film that can leave you all in smiles.
I loved the whole cast. It was natural acting, and they were all talking like regular people, you know, normal.
There were great spoofs on Bollywood films and stars.
Sex! Emotion! Tragedy! Drama! Fight! Hero! Villian! Comedy! What a story! - said by young Victor Bannerjee, where he plays an actor to help out Amol with the disguises.
Other includes, where Amol sings a song that he is now Amitabh Bachchan.. and Rekha, Hema Malini and other BWood actresses are after him.
There were amazingly hilarious scenes:
When Dina Pathak (who plays Kamla, a social worker, and who is sometimes a mother in films as a hobby) tries to get in the kitchen window and she gets almost stuck. Half of her inside and the other half outside.
Another scene is when Amol tries to flee from Bhavani, when Bhavani finds out the truth, Amol runs to the door and gets out, and Bauji - Bhavanis sister is at the door, screaming and swinging sideways on the door entrance/exit space... And Bhavani was being blocked from his sister.. Hilarious...
A funny song, Apna Sapna, or something like that.. The best part in the song is when Amol dreams of people trying to get his autograph and Amitabh is sitting on the road with his clothes all torn up and is a beggar. AND, Amols friend dancing classical music during the song.... SO FUNNY...
I loved every bit of this movie, possibly because it gets right into the story, with some good use of dialogues.
I loved Amol Palekar in this movie, he was so natural with his expressions whenever a problem arises. I was glad to see that he won Best Actor.
But the one who stole the show was Utpal Dutt. Koi Agar Magre Nahin! - He played a good father and a strict boss... Yet he happened to be a fool in both of his work. Haha.... His greatest scene is when he is at the police station and the police thought he was a runaway convict. His use of the English language was great, cause most of the corny movies I saw, some people speak real bad English!
Bindiya Goswami, from the first scene she was introduced, you can tell she is a good actress. Kya Huwa Daddy? - she says it so calm when her father thought she was pregnant before marraige. Heehee what an misunderstanding. She kind of looked like Kareena Kapoor.. freaky...
Before Andaz Apna Apna, Hera Pheri and others, there was a team of Mukherjee/Gulzar/Palekar/and Dutt who made many, many people laugh and smile. We should all cherish to the other previous comedians who have passed away.
Amol and Utpal make a great team when they are together. Always being rivals... I would surely keep this in my DVD Library, as well as Mukherjees other film, Khoobsurat.
