Old Maal, but no GolMaal! Only Fun!!!

Reading all the hype about the new movie ‘Golmaal’ has made me all the more nostalgic of my all-time favourite Hindi movie, the original ‘Golmaal’ starring Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt!

I have lost count of the times that I must have watched this movie, and every time, I enjoy it even more!!!

A fantastic movie about an average man’s attempts to retain his job – attempts which lead him to invent a fictitious twin brother and a mother too, stick a moustache and wear a short kurta to work!

Golmaal is hilarious in the sense that it never seems like forced comedy. All the situations seem plausible and logical in the course of the movie, though we may never experience it in real life! Unlike comedy movies nowadays where the humor in the movie has to be forcibly appreciated, Golmaal’s comic sequences automatically bring a smile upon on your face, if not a big guffaw of appreciative laughter!!

The performance are top-notch too, with Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt surpassing all their other movies with their fantastic portrayal of a boss and employee and later an antagonistic father-in-law and nincompoop (future) son-in-law!

Some of the songs are pretty memorable too, ‘Aanewala Pal’ being the best one in the movie, but overall, it is a movie that stays with you for its comic sequences!

Watch it at least once… and you’ll become a lifelong fan of Hrishida!!
