One warning before you venture into the journey called Golmaal-Don’t go looking hard for logic or common sense; this is one of those brainless comedies. However, it teeters on the right side of spectrum and provides a few laughs.

It is a masala potpourri of the entertaining kind – the kind that Bollywood has forgotten how to make. Rohit Shetty succeeds in stirring the mixture – a blend of affectionate masala spoof, action and crazy situations – with each ingredient balanced in just the right doses.

The story revolves around Gopal (Ajay Devgan), Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor), Mahadev (Arshad Warsi) and Laxmi (Sharman Joshi) . They are ’’who cares’’ type of guys and believe in masti and dhamaal .

At one point, due to their notorious acts, the dean [Manoj Joshi] of their college throws them out of the hostel and they have nowhere to go. They happened to chance a house, which belongs to the old couple [Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Mukherjee]. They overhear the conversation that this old couple is expecting their grandson to come up from America after 30 years and they have not seen his face and so one of us poses as their grandson. So practically the four of them live in one house and pose as one person!!!

As a director there is no doubt that Rohit Shetty is a accomplished film maker who knows how to make an entertaining film that keeps the viewer completely entertained and when the viewer leaves the theatre he comes out saying paisa vasool! The film moves at a breakneck pace completely involving the viewer in the antics of the 4 buffon characters.

Furthermore-what actually makes the film work is the blistering chemistry between the lead players .The comfort level they share with each other really rubs off well onscreen which enhances their performances. The foursome are addictive!

At this stage I would also like to acknowledge writer Rumi jafrey who does an outstanding job with the dialogues. No comedy film can work without dialogues no matter how great the actors are and Golmaal boasts of some of the wittiest and funniest lines I’ve heard. Specially those uttered by Ajay and Arshad !

Ajay’s mere presence with his tongue-in-cheek and ultra cool presence elevates the movie to a huge extent. Arshad facial expressions, his body language and even the smallest nuances just crack the viewer up. The mere sight of him evokes laughter -and even when he is not uttering any lines or is in the background he is still doing something which catches the viewers eye and evokes laughter.

Sharman acts confidently, has charm and screen presence as well. Above all he manages to hold his own against Arshad and Ajay in their own forte and leaves his own mark. His comic timing is superb . Tusshar tends to overract here though does impress in a few of the comic scenes

The rest of the supporting cast are apt in their roles but Rimi is a disappointment in her part and one feels her character hasn’t been fleshed out properly. She was much more effective in films like Dhoom or Hungama or even DHP I think this girl has talent as well as looks and needs to be more selective in her roles.

Paresh plays his part well and is efficient. This is the kind of role he can play with his eyes closed .Sushmita Mukherjee is hilarious in her parts.Mukesh Tiwari hams.

The music by V-S is superb and two songs in particular leave a lasting impresion-rehja and

and title track .Technically the film is good.Cinematography is up to the mark and artwork is well done. The film could have also done with a smaller run-time and crisp editing. Some of the POST-interval portions need to be trimmed.

Nonetheless this comedy should strike and prove a decent run at the box office. So leave your sensibilities and sense of logic at the door and be sure to bump into fun unlimited zone!
