Satisfaction Guaranteed Yet Again!

This year, except Krazzy4, most of the comic flicks like Sunday, One Two Three, De Taali, Money Hai To Honey Hai, Singh Is Kinng were highly disappointing. But now finally, we have got a wonderful comic entertainer in the form of Golmaal Returns! This sequel, like the first part, is nonsensical but overall enjoyable and very funny!

The story of the movie: Gopal (Ajay Devgan) lives with his wife Ekta (Kareena Kapoor), her brother Lucky (Tushaar Kapoor) and Gopal’s sister Esha (Amrita Arora) in a city in Goa. Ekta is a big fan of Ekta Kapoor’s serials and is always suspicious of Gopal and thinks that he may be having an affair behind her back. One night, while returning home, Gopal resuces Meera (Celina Jaitley) from a bunch of goons who were harassing her. His car breaks down and therefore, both go to nearby yacht to spend the night. The same night, Gopal’s junior assistant is murdered. Inspector Madhav (Arshad Warsi) who hates the sight of Gopal feels that Gopal was the murderer. In this mad situation comes Laxman (Shreyas Talpade). To find out what happens next, watch the film!

Golmaal Returns works because it cracks the right joke at the right time. The humour is excellent and is not crass or goes overboard even in a single scene. Some of the scenes and sequences are so funny that your stomach is surely going to ache!

Another plus-point of Golmaal Returns is that it has a great story. The murder mystery was well written and it made sense too, unlike the murder mystery in Rohit Shetty’s previous flick Sunday! Moreover, dialogues are brilliant and screenplay is perfect! More on it later.

On the flipside, the film falls at several places. However, the film picks up too in no time. Also, the climax was anything but funny. It looked totally nonsensical! The director surely could have made it better.

So which one is better-Golmaal or Golmaal Returns? Well, in my opinion, both are equally good! Golmaal was a thorough entertainer but unfortunately, it fell in several places in the 2nd half. But overall, it was a fun-filled film and can be seen again anytime. Same is in the case of Golmaal Returns!

The film has such a huge star cast but the best performer is undoubtedly Shreyas Talpade! He is completely energetic and delivers a master performance! He even overshadows the veteran Ajay Devgan in majority of the scenes! He’s surely a scene stealer! Great work, Shreyas!

Tushaar Kapoor was funnier here than Golmaal. Unlike the 1st part, there is no translator for Tushaar in Golmaal Returns! So Tushaar’s scenes surely bring the house down! Performance-wise, he was too good!

Ajay Devgan acts well and gives a great performance! He was brilliant in some of the comic scenes! It’s great to see him in funny, serious as well romantic films and doing a great job in each of the films! Hats off to Ajay!

Kareena Kapoor’s suspicious act may remind one of Lara’s character of No Entry. But as usual, she was terrific and doesn’t overact in any of the scenes. Tashan may had been a disaster, but Golmaal Returns will surely be a successful hit and this’ll ensure that the year ends on a good note for her! Amrita Arora was good, no doubt, but why this bespectacled look?

Arshad Warsi gets the least scope from the four actors. But nevertheless, he does his best and was excellent in each scene! Celina Jaitley surprisingly was brilliant. Let’s hope she gets more films like Golmaal Returns. Anjana Sukhani was hardly there but she was funny in all her scenes! Ashwini Kaleskar was first-rate. Vrajesh Hirjee was funny. Sanjay Mishra and Murli Sharma were okay.

Pritam and Ashish Pandit’s music was excellent. Pritam scores in all his songs. However, the song composed by Ashish Pandit, ‘Thaa Kar Ke’ was the best of all the songs. It was terrific and was well-shot too. The song ‘Tu Saala’ is missing from the film.

N Natarajan Subramaniam’s cinematography was breathtaking. Farhan-Sajid’s dialogues were the big plus point of the film. They were hilarious and quite witty too! Yunus Sajawal’s screenplay was quite interesting and engrossing. The film is around 2.15 hours but doesn’t bore even for a moment though it falls at several places.

Finally, Rohit Shetty, the director, is back in form! He impressed everyone with his Zameen and Golmaal. However, his Golmaal Returns was a major letdown. But with Golmaal Returns, he’s back with a bang. His direction was flawless. Also, the movie does a spoof on films like Black, Saawariya and Tashan which was very funny too!

Some of the best scenes of the film:

1.    The song ‘Vacancy’, ‘Thaa Kar Ke’ and ‘Meow’

2.    Ajay and Kareena’s marriage anniversary

3.    Tushaar and Shreyas’ entry

4.    Tushaar and Shreyas meeting for the first time

5.    The scene where Kareena thought Ajay is dead! (funniest scene!)

6.    Ajay and Celina in the yacht

7.    Ajay and Shreyas meeting for the first time

8.    Shreyas meeting Kareena

9.    All scenes of Anjana Sukhani

  1. Ajay, Tushaar and Shreyas at the mall disguised as women

  2. The last scene

On the whole, Golmaal Returns is a thorough entertainer. The film has few flaws, but overall it has a good story, hilarious dialogues, brilliant performances and a great music! It would surely make you smile! Go for it!!
