Google chrome Operating System is the first web based application which is based on the concept of Cloud Computing. Its interface resembles chrome browser and its very simple to use and understand. when I used it for the first time I felt that the entire Operating System is built in chrome browser. The Operating system is designed for the person who travels frequently and needs internet access. Google chrome Operating system is a good option for them. When I have used this operating system for the first time, the feature I liked a lot was its booting time period. This Operating System boots very fast. It hardly takes 5 to 7 seconds for booting unlike other operating system which takes 60 seconds for booting. All the necessary applications and drivers are pre-installed.
You don’t need to worry about it. One more very attractive feature of this Operating System is that it is based on Linux kernel and all the applications are sandboxed and have access to limited resources and rights. The applications can not communicate with each other. Every time you log-in the chrome Operating system check for the digital signature for every system element to make sure that nothing has been changed. If any change is found then automatically it update that element through update process. All these features make the Google operating system virus-free. The operating system also provide secure auto update service. It automatically updates the softwares to its latest version. it also provide drop-box of size 2 GB. Since, it is based on the concept of Cloud Computing , the Operating System stores all the user data on cloud.
This feature will let you access your data from anywhere in this world. You will just need the high speed internet connection. Since, the Operating system is light weight it can not load heavy weight softwares like Photoshop. There is one more limitation with this operating system. The Google chrome Operating system is not conventional operating system which we can buy or download on a disk. If you want to use this OS you need to buy chromebook (chromebook is a device which comes with chrome OS installed on it). There are many different kind of chromebooks with different features are available. This Operating system do have some more limitations.
One more limitation, which I came across while using it is that it doesn’t provide hard drive storage. The Operating system wants us to store all our data on cloud. But many time I don’t feel like putting my confidential data on Cloud. It can lead to security issues. Once, I wanted to finish my important task but because of some network issue I didn’t get access to my data and I could not finish my task on time. So, I feel the operating system should provide some sort of secondary storage so that user can keep the backup of important data. Its design focuses on internet access so if you need internet access all the time then you can go for it.
