Ouch! Wailed I.” Mama…my leg aches…
I’m hungry”, moaned my sis. These were the exclamations heard after a day’s picnic. My mom walked towards the kitchen and stopped on hearing my dad say, ” how about going to G.C.? G.C. is an abbreviation [among the diners] for the ‘Grand Central ‘restaurant in Chembur. In no time, the car honked and we were in the restaurant lobby. A rather attractive hoarding outside the restaurant went unnoticed by us [damn-hungry us]
On entering, we realized that it was the first day of the 15-day Thai fest.
‘Experience the flavours of Thailand at Grand Central.
The journey begins
1st may onwards…’
Sigh! I thought [I had never liked Thai food]. I thought to look at it in a positive way.
So there we are…glancing at the menu card in a way a 3yr old [unable to read] would glance a storybook.
Tom yak phak…, pia che…. My mom [a veggie] looked tense.
The waiter kindly explained the eateries and their contents.
Hmm…lets try this.or that…no no this seems better…this makes my mouth water [I was perplexed].
Finally…I placed an order…
Below in capitals is the name of the dish, price in brackets and description of the dish in brackets is as
given in the menu card. I have rated the items purely as per my experience. Individual choices may vary…
Excellent: 4
Good: 3
Average: 2
Bad: 1
1.TOM YAK PHAK: {RS. 50/-}[ A Spicy veg clear soup flavoured with lemon grass, limejuice &chillies.]
I love spicy food. But that’s not the only reason why I give 4 pts here. The Lemon grass and limejuice give it an ‘ummm..Lovely…taste’. It’s got that tangy-sour-spicy taste that leaves you asking for more.
2.TOM KHA PHAK: {RS.60/-} [assorted vegetables soup flavoured with coconut milk, galangal and lemon grass.]
As described, the coconut milk is the main ingredient here. Those coconut-haters…don’t worry. This soup changed my outlook towards coconut. I simply loved this soup.4 pts here too.
3.POD PIA CHE {RS. 90/-} [deep fried spring rolls filled with vegetables and vermicelli.]
They look like those spring rolls in the Chinese category. only ‘cut and replace’ of some vegetables. But hold on. The garlic sauce is worth mentioning due to its spicy-sweet taste. Spicy cum sweet taste. Surprising isn’t it? 3 pts to this dish.
4.GUAY TEOW PAD SE-IEW {RS.80/-} [stir-fried noodles with assorted veg.]if you are thinking so, this revu is not an ‘All good dish’ revu. Let Me be honest…I didn’t like this dish…somehow swallowed it. Sorry GUAY TEOW…I have to give you only a point.
5.CRISPY BANANAS: {RS 60/-} [A Dessert.] -Banana crisps flavoured +fried.
Umm…they’re surely worth mentioning…4 pts.
6.THAI COCONUT CUSTARD: {RS.60/-}[ A Dessert.] It’s custard flavoured with mango. 4 pts.
Okay. This was about the dishes. Now for the…
1 DECORATION AND PRESENTATION: 3 pts coz I feel they can improve on it.
- AMBIENCE AND SERVICE: 4 Pts. They are pretty friendly and their service is fast
3.LOCALITY/PLACE WHERE SITUATED: 4 Pts.Its in the market area in Chembur in Mumbai and easily accessible. Valet parking available.
I have concentrated on the ongoing Thai fest here.
Otherwise this restaurant serves Chinese, Punjabi, seafood and non-veg.Reservations are accepted.Crowded on weekends
It’s an AC restaurant with facilities for parties and birthdays too. They even accept parcel orders and give free home-delivery.
If you ever dine here, don’t forget to taste the ‘paneer palak’ and ‘chicken chilly’ here.
P.s. ratings and comments are welcomed
