A lovely reflective novel

R K Narayan’s novel The Guide is about a prisoner who has completed his jail term. The novel is written in the first person. The novel traces back to his childhood in which his favorite pastime was bookreading. His affair with a dancer which gets him fame and money but also throws him into jail.

The novel gets back into present wherein he finds people turning to him for guidance. He turns into a guru giving his followers sermons on the right way of living and providing solutions for their problems.

The novel traces the remarkable transition from a convict to a guru. The novel is a reflective one and has been beautifully written. The novel is around 200 pages long and affordably priced. This novel can be read at a leisurely pace. This book is obviously not meant for action lovers. The novel meanders slowly and beautifully.

Makes for an interesting read.
