Having seen their wonderful and appealing ads in the Times of India for several weeks I finally decided to visit Spice Market Restaurant located on the back side of City Walk Mall Saket. I would regret the decision, as Spice Market would turn out to be my worst experience ever.
RATING:
Food: 2.0
Ambience: 2.0
Service: 1.0
Location: Its completely hidden at the back side of Select City Walk Mall Saket, right next to KFC. Its got the perfect location: HIDDEN, where it should be!
We went on a Friday evening and the place was completely empty. Since we were the only people we thought wed get great service, but we were in for a surprise. All the waiters seemed completely untrained and unprofessional. There was just one girl who seemed to have gone through hospitality school.
The table at Spice Kitchen are old and broken and definitely the place needs a makeover. The tables are so long that the waiter had to throw our plate on the table to get it over to us. I was scared they would spill my glass of water when they poured.
Lets get to the food. The menu is like a book with tons of items to choose from and the descriptions are great to read. But dont get deceived as the food is not as great as the description.
We ordered the Surmai Kali Mirch( RS 425) for starters and clearly the fish was not fresh as claimed by the staff. The fish was frozen and under cooked a bit. The spices used were good and made it edible.
Next we tried the Kosha Mangsho( RS 380), a lamb dish where the meat was so tough to eat, you needed a hammer and chisel to cut the meat into peices.
The Murg Lababdar( Rs 380) was tasty and the chicken seemed fresh and the spices just right.
The Tandoori Roti( Rs 50) OUCH, was hard like a brick and we asked the waiter to kindly replace it with something edible which they did after looking at us as if we had asked insulted them by saying it was hard.
Be aware all rice versions are around Rs 300!.
Their virgin cocktails are great and cost around RS 180 and have fresh fruit and lime. The pineapple version was nice however the watermelon version had sugar lumps at the bottom.
Its hard to enjoy your meal if 3 waiters are staring at you and not move an eye at all. We decided to have our meal packed since we were uncomfortable . The waiter said they would gladly pack the food since they obviously wanted to close for the night as we were the only customers all night. To our surprise once we paid the bill and were waiting for our packed dinner we were told that by mistake they had thrown our food away and that they were sorry. Having said that the waiter walked away . No compensation offered what so ever.
Having spent over RS 2358.10 for 2 people with no alcohol, was the experience worth it? Definitely NOT.
All in all, would I recommend Spice Market to you all? Definetely not. Its over priced and the staff needs to be trained and the food not as great as the advertisements they run depict.
