The neo noir film is set against the backdrop of gurgaon and serves as a metaphor for the chimerical city with its unprecendented growth story and the cost of that sudden prosperity and progress.
Gurgaon is based on kehri singh and his troubled family. Singh is a canny real estate developer who has made his fortune but now is mostly lost in a haze of alcohol, while his older son Nikki nurses a deep grudge against preet his younger sister and the apple of their fathers eye.
8n an interesting twist , it is preet who is the favourite of her father, who even named his business after her and considers her to be lucky charm for business. All of this gnaws at an increasingly sidelined Nikki, while the family matriarch karma devi is a helpless spectator to breakdown of her family.
The excess and the unease that comes to define the singh family’s lives and the deepening of those fault lines run parallel to the city they live in. This should hopefully make for a riveting watch.
