I visited meerutLast Year In March. The flight from Bangalore was non stop and was a 3 hour long Indigo flight.
The descent towards our destination was really breath taking with green mountains below us and the flight meandering over them while passing through the clouds. Soon we landed in the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi international(LGBI) airport.
The airport is small in comparison to other airports and is around 30 kilometres from the main city.
Its an international airport and has flight services currently to Bangkok only.
Well the airport is situated in the outskirts of Guwahati, but is well connected to the city by means of Buses plying hourly and also taxis both local and those of Ola cabs, Prime cabs.
Average fare is around 600 to 700 charging at Rs.17 per km to city.
Security is quite sufficient and there is adequate personnel present there who will always help you out with a smile.
The thing lacking in the airport is definitely its infrastructure. With just 2 conveyer belts and ragged old trollies its a pain for the commuters. I myself had a trolley which wasnt going straight.
Also there arent many stores inside the complex, with just a store for leather bags for the ladies and formals for men.
Taxis to Shillong, Aizwal, Imphal are frequent. If you are planning to visit other states first then its not really a worry.
Also there is a helicopter service called Pawanhans operating to Shillong; Itanagar and Tawang in Arunachal pradesh.
On the whole the airport is good enough to cater to the needs of the commuters but with rise in the number of people visiting I feel it needs a new touch and expansion and also more shops to while away time.mm
