Looks like I will be a contrarian here!
The movie wont be a blockbuster....maybe it was not intended to be. While the heart of the movie is in place, nothing else works for it. I am a sucker for alternate cinema, but not whats on offer here.
What didnt quite work for me:
Surprisingly, Hrithik looks hale and hearty - notwithstanding his medical condition - he looks like a hero - not one who’s suffered for 14 years and is immobile.
Ash is his caretaker for 12 years - but she doesnt look like one....she’s married (or say divorced), away from family, but still looks 20 something (or late 20’s) - certainly not the age her character seems to play.
Her lawyer says he’s financially indebted - could be true for a man with prolonged physical disabilities - but the house looks anything but that. It is huge, spic and span and could even give any Maharaja a run for antiques.
Hrithik is a magician and a RJ - and believe what - his maid connects him to audience and runs the show for him! Now which radio channel is that - that runs without any technical support and script?
Mr. Kapoor - Think he needs to attend some acting schools before one can really Act.
Hrithik - wonderful actor - given limitations in the script - has done well on what he could.
Ash - looks like million bucks and lights the screen with her presence - but - when will she really vow for her acting skills?
That apart, what is disappointing is there is no chemistry between the lead actors at all. Ash is as cold as ice. Didnt quite like the music. And hello, why have the camera fixed on the faces of all actors at all times?
Bhansali’s only credible film was Khamoshi - but he didnt know how to wrap that up. Have watched all his movies on screen - but next time will be careful.
