There are better books out there and there better writers out there! Even if you don’t want to read Rushdie or Jhumpa Lahiri there are select few who write contemporary, interesting stories! I’d personally recommend Zero Defect if you want a fast paced, and thought provoking read.
There is also a lesser known(among indians) bookShantaram though not written by and indian author is an interesting contemporary book set in Mumbai.
So, open your mind and read something better for change;)
