Initially when the book was launched by Mr. Chetan Bhagat, I couldn’t figure out what the Title- Half Girlfriend implied.
I ordered the book online and within a week, it landed on my table. I was so eager to understand the concept that I started reading as I received keeping the other tasks at bar.
The story revolves around Madhav & Riya, Madhav is a simple boy hailing from Dumraon, Bihar & Riya comes from an affluent family of Delhi.there is no match in their profiles. Madhav happens to take admission in St. Stephen’s, Delhi on the basis of Sports quota and there he mingles with Riya. Soon they are in a relationship and start meeting at isolate places which turns on the horny facet of Madhav and at one or two instances, he got mad in lust and used abusive language. Riya could not stand Madhav anymore and decided to marry the boy of his parent’s choice. Madhav returned to Dumraon to assist his Mother with her school . The people of Dumraon hold his mother high in reverence as she is taking care of the people since a long time and people are grateful to her. The MLA of Dumraon comes to know that Bill gates is visiting Bihar as they have NGO running in this state and he insists Madhav’s mother, Rani Sahiba to hold an inaugural function to greet Bill Gates and get the work of building toilets done in the village. Initially, she is reluctant but on request of Madhav & MLA, she agrees for the function.
Madhav accidentally meets Riya in Patna and they discuss about their lives from the time they had separated.
Lot of things had changed.Riya divorced her husband Rohan on the pretext of domestic violence
and now she was working for Nestle. Madhav was insane in her love and so he was internally very happy at their break up.Riya confesses that she was immature to move out of relation from Madhav and marry Rohan, it was her fault.
They both gear up for the relation but his Mother acts as villainous in the plot and asks sternly to keep away from Madhav. She excuses herself from getting tied to Madhav stating in a letter that she is moving away due to lung cancer.the thing that takes place in most of the Bollywood films.
Once again, Madhav is heart broken. The broker informs Madhav about Riya’s journals. Madhav decides to handover to the author Chetan Bhagat so that it can be put into use to write a new story.
Madhav was searching Riya, frantically and finally, idea cooed that Riya might have gone to New York. y hook n crook, he plans his itinerary n flies to New York. His search is on and finally he catches her in one of the music bars.
The story comes to an end with the culmination of marriage and they are blessed with a child.as usual it happens in Bollywood films.
Chetan Bhagat had written this story keeping in mind to bag a chance to remake the novel to a film & finally, he succeeded.
I think the author chose the title, "Half-Girlfriend" because he has presented the relationships & get together of Madhav & Ria in easy instalments.
Guys, you can go for this if you love reading light stories, nothing much to gain than to wane your precious time.if you have ample leisure time, do indulge.
