Half Girlfriend is a romantic novel written by Chetan Bhagat. The is also a film of the same name directed by Mohan Suri based on the novel. The leading characters are Madhav Jha, Riya Somani, Anshika and Shailesh. It is the story of a Bihari boy named Madhav Jha whose mother tongue is Hindi. He cannot speak English well. Madhav joins St. Stephens College, Delhi, through the sports quota as a student of Sociology. There he meets Riya Somani, who is a basketball player, and instantly falls in love with her. She speaks English well and belongs to a rich family. They start bonding over their shared interest - basketball and soon, he asks her out. Riya challenges him to score a basket, but makes it clear that its not a date and theyre just hanging out. Shailesh, a college friend of Madhav always gives him advise Riya and Madhav cannot be more than friends because of their difference in status. Riya suggests that she can be hisHalf Girlfriend.
