On a related note, Mohit Suri’s directional Half Girlfriend which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel of the same name, will see the movie’s leading lady Shraddha Kapoor in the role of a rich Delhi brat, Riya Somani. Romance is an integral element in Mohit Suri films and music plays a key role in presenting it to the audience. His Half Girlfriend is no different, and the songs that have released from the album are proof enough. The first one is Tanishk Bagchi’s love ballad, ’Baarish’, which beautifully brings out the magic of monsoon. There’s a sense of familiarity, and we can’t help but equate the number with yesteryear hit’Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki’. But the comparison is purely because of three common links- rain, romance and string preludes. Ash king’s voice is haunting and the way he holds fort is commendable.Even Shashaa Tirupati’s vocals, though restricted just to alaap, is praise - worthy . The other song that’s made its way to the stands is’Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga’, which is about unconditional love. Composed by Arijit Singh and Shashaa breathing life into Manoj Muntashir’s words. The BGM is subtle, with just the guitar and flute arrangements making an impression.The movie’Half Girlfriend’ is all slated to hit theatres on May 19.
