Depression? No, its life!

’The majority of humans live their lives in quiet desperation’. Who said that? Someone famous, I think.

I guess a largely happy life is simply a myth. It is but obvious that there is far more sorrow in life, than there is joy. The pursuit of happiness is a major cause of this. Because, happiness is relative. To sadness.

I say this because once upon a time, I was happy. And I did not know it since I did not know what sadness was.

I saw a movie in which there is a reference to that time of your life where you realise that you have met all the interesting people you are likely to meet in your lifetime, looked your best, and never will look better, been your most productive, and said your most interesting things, thought your most interesting thoughts, AND IT AINT THAT GREAT. Hows that for a depressing thought?

Hope is glorified, and largely hyped up. Too many people living their miserable lives know that to hope will do no good. Its a cliche. For that matter, so is destiny. A hyped up security blanket to fight against an unknown enemy.

Reality bites. Would you rather live in a pleasant dream than a harsh reality? I might, if I was promised never to be woken up.

How does one understand someone else’s pain? It may seem straightforward, but I dont think it is. In fact, I think the answer is, one cannot. Because pain is subjective. To a whole lot of personal things which cannot possible be shared, due to a lack of protocol for that kind of information exchange. Language is a primitive mode of communication, and since its our best bet, there are too many things left unsaid, left unshared.

Apart from a medical perspective, what can one do? Pursue hobbies? Not a good choice, from personal experience. It doesnt really help. Reach out to friends? Well this can work for a while, but then it becomes quite ridiculous.

Mind altering drugs, or simply alcohol can help to a certain extent but then it takes you into a self defeating spiral, so that cannot be the way to go about getting out of the depressed state of mind. So what can you do? Personally, I feel the answer is nothing. Anything else sounds cliched, and optimistic.

Because by doing nothing, you are allowing time to pass by.
