Depressing

I thought that hanging up would be a fun movie to watch. With the actors who are featured in this movie I thought it would crack me up. I was really wrong. First of all I can’t believe how depressed it made me. There were a few parts that made me laugh but this is a really serious movie that focuses on serious issues. I wasn’t exactly in the mood for that type of movie last night. It really made me take a look at my own problematic childhood.

The story was interesting but a bit slow. I didn’t like how they jumped around between present day and the past because there seemed to be very little warning that you were seeing a flashback until you realized that megs hair was longer. I think that I would have appreciated the story line a bit more if I had been prepared for something serious. However the movie had it’s flaws. I don’t want to give away the ending but I do want to say that in real life, when your family is this messed up, it takes a lot more than some playing in the kitchen to have a happy ending.

The story is about three sisters and their drunk father. He is not only a drunk but a very mean drunk who ruins a child’s birthday party at one point in the movie. There is the daughter who seems to be trying to hold the entire family together and in exchange is walked all over and totally stressed out. Then there is the daughter who by some chance has become a huge star and has everything she ever wanted. The father just adores this daughter even though she never seems to have any time for him at all. The third sister is the youngest and is wild and free. She just wants to live life to it’s fullest. A tragedy brings the girls together but only after a great deal of struggle between them all.
