I know this review is late but can’t help it ‘rather late than never’ I just saw it yesterday and I wouldn’t advocate it as a good movie it supposedly is. The movie itself was a stark disappointment not just because of the way it was portrayed but also because of simply what it is.
The movie itself is not that bad but when you’ve got expectations (as I did) you’ll be seriously disappointed. Because despite everything it is slow.
Come on… aren’t we tired of almost the same ol plot even though it’s a human instead of some godforsaken creature. Though one has to admit that the movie was somewhat new in it’s story line but exactly what was new is indistinct.
Moreover one has to admit that the acting is amazing and you can’t really expect anything else Academy Award Winners Anthony Hopkins and Julian Moore who also is a pretty good actress. However as it usually happens, the sequel was nowhere as good as the original.
I’ve always found horror, mystery & suspense movies enthralling & captivating (the adjectives that aren’t generally used in this case). But this movie despite professing to be a good one concerning these aspects was worse; even as compared to oldies like ‘Dracula’ (I’m not referring to the latest versions).
A Cannibal the Hannibal….huh? Sounds dumb to me. Ok! A movie is supposed to be either entertaining n fun or one with depth n substance or even something that raises your hair & makes you nervous n scared. But In my opinion the movie was neither of these things. Moreover I was disgusted at a few parts that made me feel like throwing up (not always). I’d rather laze around and read the book by Thomas Harris instead the originator of the whole thing. The movie is basically based upon it & is also the sequel to his earlier book & movie that won the academy award ‘The Silence Of The Lambs’. But yes, I should say that the book was pretty well written and worth one reading at least even if it isn’t that great.
I’ll say… I’m glad that I didn’t waste time or money watching the movie at a movie theater (though I would have gone earlier if I’d got the time) but instead I saw the CD on the television. Because the movie most definitely is not worth it and I wouldn’t extol it as such to anyone. Ok! It really isn’t a question of money but also of getting not even half of what you expected. And most probably it would seem better on the big screen.
The movie leave’s a lot to be desired n the pace also is or at-least seems to be slack. Hannibal would not get my recommendation for certain but honestly speaking I’m really prejudiced in this case n the movie is at least worth one watch. Nevertheless ill have to say that the blood n gore dont really make up for the lack of storyline!!!
