When my neighbour in USA referred to this movie I wanted to see this movie.
I got the DVD of this movie. When the movie started the tittle song reminded me of my birth place Hyderabad. It was a typical Hyderabadi song. Then the first scene also reminded me of life in Hyderabad where burqua wearing Shabana Azmi comes to her mother’s place, I used to see all the time when I was kid. It was so close to real life.
Though the story is from Badiyon it was entirely shot in Hyderabad as most of the artistes are from there. Fortunately Shyam Benegal is also from Hyderabad but unfortunate for Hyderabad he never gave Hyderabadis the lead charactors in any of his movies.
Aslam Farshori, Afshan Jabeen, Ayesha Jaleel and Preeti Nigham to name few who performed in the movie did a good job for couple of scenes they got.
Shabana Azmi was good as usual but the best performance was of Nandita Das she is a good actress. Ihope she work in good movies like this even after the marriage.
Unfortunately when my neighbours wife told my wife that yeh movie aap logon par hai (meaning on you muslims)I really felt bad. Controlling population is a countries biggest problem. I wish every one understands this.
