~~~'Petrificus Totalus!'~~~
Harry Potter...the name on every child’s lip, the hot conversations among all kids about him...The long lines that lined outside the theatres during Harry Potter flicks...Can’t blame the media much for creating the hype...to much extent the magic lies in Rowling’s pen .
Now why am I writing a review on the first book when the fifth book is already out and in demand? Does her magic really work on all readers?
Why not watch the movie instead of spending time reading this book?
Read further to find out...
=== THE BEGINNING === {For Muggles a.k.a those who have not read the book}
Harry Potter , is just another kid who lives in England with the Dursleys {his cousin’s family}.He’s made to believe that his parents died in a car-crash and that’s how he’s got a scar on his forehead.Harry always wonders why luck favours him and why abnormal experiences accompany his normal life.{like his hair growing back fully just the day after Aunt Petunia snips them too short} .Then comes the day when Harry comes to know that he is a wizard , that too, a famous one! Off he goes to The ’Hogwarts’ school of wizards.This is when the adventure begins...
=== THE BASIC PLOT ===
Voldemort {ya, I am brave enough to call out his name}is an over ambitious Hogwarts drop out .He wants to gain power and rule the world.The Hogwarts is believed to be the safest place with Dumbledore being around, the only one whom Voldemort {cowardly known as You-Know -Who}fears .
School activities for wizards includes different subjects with magic as the base of syllabus for all subjects{how I wish my college princi read that}Quidditch, a school game is one of the exciting events of the year.Now what’s Voldemort’s exact plan? Who is it who illegally supports Voldemort?Why is Snape not happy at Harry’s arrival? Does Harry lose anything at the end?And what is this Philosopher’s stone ?Read the book to find out...
=== THE WRITING ===
Due to time constraint, I have not read any more of the Harry Potter books.{that answers why I have reviewed the first}.In my view, J.K Rowling is one of those rare writers who makes the reader enter the story.I myself felt as if I was in the school , a witch with the others.When the Quidditch match was going on , I was as excited as the spectators would have been.
The language used is good , with a few words which may require flipping through the dictionary , but the content can be understood without finding out the exact meaning .
Each chapter in the book deals with a particular incident thus in case the book is not read at a go , one does not require to flip backwards to understand anything , except if it is read after a long gap.
I can label this work as creativity at it’s best, every reader knows how difficult it is to write a series of books which keeps the readers hungry for more and more.
=== HOW TO READ THE BOOK ===
Certainly, if time permits it should be read at a go.This keeps one involved and excited throughout the read, not that otherway you won’t be excited.Read it when you crave for an adventurous read .
Read it when nothing else is important because believe me, it makes you put away your work and keeps you glued to the book.This is what is stopping me from reading the next one in my recent, busy days.I advise to watch the movie only after reading the book because I did the opposite and failed to understand many incidents with doubts all hovering in my head.
=== WHAT INSPIRED ME TO READ IT ===
My biggest inspiration were my friendswho kept on discussing about it and I felt left out.No regrets now as I know what to value-add in these discussions.One more inspiration was Spookaay {MS. ID} whose magnificient review on the fifth book made me all the more interested.I thought if someone elder than me can finish the fifth book why can’t I?I was convinced that this is not a kiddie book{not that I despise all kiddish things}
So...happy reading/re-reading{one of my pals has read it 6 times!}
Comments are welcomed,
Good luck,
Bonjour
