Hash- A new Sizzle in the 'burbs...!!!

After long deliberations on the ideal place to treat my pals on my b’day, I zeroed down on Hash Sizzlers, the newly-fledged sizzler place in the suburbs. After a favorable review by a fellow foodie, it seemed just the right place for a bunch of youngsters to enjoy a birthday treat on a lazy afternoon. Accordingly, we made to Hash late last noon. Décor- As we opened the door to the eatery, it was love-at-first-site for all of us. The place at once oozes a mesmerizing blend of style, class and a youthful zing. We were ushered in by a very helpful Captain to a corner table of our choice. The first 5 minutes were spent taking in the décor and the swanky feel of its chic interiors. We settled down and browsed thru its culinary offerings. Menu- Our initial euphoria was somewhat deflated on perusing the carte for we were greeted by a limited number of options under the ‘sizzlers’ section, an alarming prospect when u go to a sizzler establishment. There were only 3-4 options under the vegetarian section and a similar number under the chicken. But considering that the menu boasted of sizzlers with lamb and sea-food options also, it won’t pinch a meat-eater much. Yet yesterday I was on a self-imposed exile due to my vegetarian comrades and so had to strictly adhere to vegetarianism. The longest list was under the soups section, all between 50-85 bucks. The menu also boasted of options like mini-meals and a breads/sandwiches section. Again we went on a hunting spree for all the veggie treats we could find. We settled down on 2 of the 3 vegetarian sizzlers that were on offer- Paneer Shashlik (Rs.225) and Veg cutlets with Mushroom and Baked beans (Rs.234). We were immediately served with individual notepads wherein we could pick and choose our options of vegetables and toppings that we could include or exclude from our sizzler. This came as a welcoming reprieve for a self-confessed tomato and pineapple despiser like me. There were the following options under various heads- Vegetables: - cauliflower, tomato, mushroom, pineapple, spinach, French beans, cabbage, American corn. Sauces: - Garlic, pepper, asparagus, mustard, oyster, and a couple more. Potatoes: - French fries, mashed or hash browns. Rice: - Plain rice, fried rice, spaghetti, noodles. Extra toppings- (at a cool 15 bucks per topping) Extra Cheese - Sliced or grated, veg cutlet, paneer, baked beans, pineapple, French fries, and many others. Apart from sizzlers, there were veg cutlets and chips (Rs.90), garlic bread with cheese (Rs.60), pastas with garlic bread, fried vegetables and other such concoctions, all between 50 and 125 bucks. We settled down for 2 sizzlers and garlic bread with cheese. The Lemon iced tea came highly recommended and so we ordered for it. On the steward’s recommendation we ordered for Black Current Iced tea. After a very short wait, we were brought our drinks and aperitif. The Lemon Iced tea was a tad too strongly flavored for my palate. But my friend seemed to like it that way. I liked it better when some of the ice melted and diluted the drink somewhat. The black current variation received a thumbs-up from all those who like fruity flavored drinks. Not for me though. The garlic bread was just rightly flavored and covered with sinfully delicious cheese. Another fewminutes down the line we were served 2 platters of sizzling bliss. One bite into the moundful of delectable fare and we knew that we had chosen well. The veg cutlets were delicately seasoned to blissful perfection. And the baked beans were classically tender and mellow on the palate. Even the paneer was in generous helpings. Halfway thru our 2nd sizzler we decided that 2 were just not justice enough for the delectable fare, and we ordered a repetition of our paneer variant. Service- : - prompt and unobtrusive, a welcome relief from our last outing to Kailash Parbat, Lokhandwala. The waiters politely suggested a dish and gracefully backed out when their suggestion was declined. They were always smiling and seemed willing to help. Drinks & Desserts- : drinks were between Rs.40 (regular cold drinks) and 90 (cold coffee with ice cream), with standard quality and savor. We had our group favorite brownies with vanilla ice cream, which turned out to be so well done that we stuffed our already over-fed appetite with another helping of the same. The platter came with a generous helping of ambrosial chocolate sauce and a very tenderly piquant chocolate brownie. Full marks to this sinful conclusion! Pricing:- - decent for the quantity and quality on offer. An average meal for 4 would cost anywhere between 800 to 1100, including drinks and desserts. This done, I just can’t wait to go there with my self-confessed ‘pure-non-veg’ pal, to sample the succulent-sounding meaty treats on the menu. Till then, my taste buds would have to suffice with the veggie adventure they had yesterday. Go grab a sizzle…!!!
