HBO is one of the best cable channels in recent years. I remember back in the 70’s a show that mesmerized my daughter and kept my VCR recording for years. That show was called Video Jukebox and my family has been hooked from then.

HBO shows many movies, but it’s their other programming that makes them shine. Let’s start with the award winning show, The Sopranos. In it’s third series, this show is about the life of Italians that just happen to be involved in the mob. Tony Soprano, marvelously played by James Gandolfini, is in charge of the family, because Uncle Junior (Dominic Chianese) is under house arrest. His family consists of his wife Carmella (Edie Falco) and his children Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and Anthony Jr (Robert Iler). Also in the cast is his psychiatrist played by Lorraine Bracco, his nephew Chris, played by Michael Imperioli, an many other characters who play their roles very well. I happen to be a great fan of this show as it reminds me of my own family (not the criminal aspect).

There is also a wonderful show, Oz which depicts life behind bars. This series stars Rita Moreno, Lee Tergesen, Ernie Huson, J.K. Simmons, J. D. Williams and many more. Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.

If you are a football fanatic, tune in on Inside The NFL. The show is hosted by Len Dawson, Chris Collinsworth, Nick Buoniconti, Jerry Glanville and Dan Marino. These guys show highlights from the week before and predict who will win in this weeks games.

In the sports venue, there are boxing matches from New York, Las Vegas and as far away as South Africa. Upcoming matches feature Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Lennox Lewis, and Floyd Mayweather. Check you listings for these fight shows.

Then there is Taxicab Confessions 2001, America Undercover, Autopsy, Dennis Miller, Chris Rock, original films and many classic movies.

If you are tired of watching regular television with those sitcoms that are the same year after year, turn to HBO. You won’t be bored any more.
