Here is a letter I sent across to the HDFC bank regarding my Moms experience with the Bank on 19th Jan 2005. The only response I had from the bank yet, even after two weeks is a short mail that they are investigating the issue. Isnt this pathetic on the banks part. Lucky me, I still havent deposited any money in the account yet. If you plan to open any account with this bank, pls be warned. From what I read in the other reviews, we are all better off staying away from this bank.

Ive recently opened an NRE account with you (Dwarakanagar Branch,
Vizag), with my mother as the account operator in India. However my
mothers name was written wrongly in the welcome kit and so my mother
went to the Dwarakanagar branch to get the name corrected and deposit
dollars in the account. However when my mother approached the lady who
was required to make the required changes. My mother had with her the ID
that my mother displayed including the one issued by HDFC (for an
earlier house loan) and the one issued by the Vizag Municipal
Corporation (ration card) and one more by the ICICI Bank were all
declared unacceptable by the lady and my mother was asked to prove that
I had given her the right to operate my account.
I am sure if you refer to the application opening form I submitted in
Sep 04, you will find all these details in order with the required
signatures from me, and copies of my passport and other papers.
The extremely offensive and rude manner your bank officials have treated
your customers is unbecomming of your bank. First your officials make
mistake in entering my mothers name into your system, and secondly when
my mother approaches your bank officals to get it corrected, she is
rebuffed and treated in an extremely rude and offensive manner.
I am not happy with the attitude of your bank officials in the Vizag
Branch and I would like to close my NRE account with immediate effect.
I have other accounts in ICICI and Citibank which are more than
sufficient for our family. I will also advise all my friends about your
bank officials attitude in dealing with the customers. I will also
post this experience in the Indian websites and forumns so that more
NRIs wont have to face the same kind of problems with your bank.
