In 1997, Bank employees use to know my, my account # and service used to be prompt. In 2006 - bank employees are clueless on banking rules, have no clue to how to talk to customer, have no forms and things dont get done.
I got married and wanted to open a joint acct with my wife. First the 20 something HDFC employee wanted to see a proof of my marriage. I was surprised on this as you can open a joint account with anyone. However, I provided marriage cert to her. Then she wanted address proof of me and my wife both having same address. That pissed me off as I was their existing customer and how can I provide address proof of my newly married wife? I reported her to sr managment @ hdfc and my account was opened on the same day.
Then I wanted internet banking kit and despite submitting written requests multiple times, they never sent me the userid/pwd. Then I also submitted form 15H for tax exemption for my wife, but they still deducted tax and casually said I can get refund from IT dept. I told them to pay me the tax amt and I will return them the tax amt when I get the refund from IT dept. Then they never responded to me.
In 2009 - they introduced this rule that they will charge Rs 3 per 1000 rs if you withdraw from non-base branch. No other bank has this rule. Now, I travel a lot and cannot go to base branch all the time. I will go to nearest branch to withdraw funds. hence I finally decided to close all the accts.
