Credit application double work

I applied for a no fee credit card with HDFC, and gave the Customer Services Representative all requested documents. Over the next 10 days, I received no less than 3 phone calls to verify my details such as date of birth which were already there on the copy of my Driver’s License provided. I also received a couple of SMS’es, one of which stated that they required more information.

When I e-mailed Customer Service, they said they needed my address proof which could be a copy of my Driver’s License. So, where did the copy I submitted go? And why did Customer Service claim they were unable to reach me on my mobile phone? Is this a delay tactic? Or, is a reputed bank merely being careless and misplacing documents? ...

UPDATE:

Apparently, physical verification of my address failed. I live in a flat with a security guard and confirmed that no body came looking for me. The letter mailed to me by the bank over a week ago is yet to reach. They response from the Customer Service is scripted every time, and the only thing that changes is the name and signature. 24 Hour Customer Service is available to discuss my application from 8AM to 9PM only. On the plus side, having no credit card means no rates and charges... I’ve given them a 5/5 for that.
