I would like to share a very bad experience with HDFC Bank credit card. I used to get calls frequently from HDFC Bank to apply for a credit card since I had a savings account with them. I normally ignore those calls. So, one of the HDFC bank credit card agents has trespassed into our apartment and persuaded my wife to apply for a credit card since we had a joint account.
I told her not to take the card. So, she called the bank to ignore the application. Inspite of that we received the card. So, we cut the card and sent a letter to cancel the card. Two weeks after that we received a statement for an annual fee (this card was given as a free card!). We called up their call centre to clarify about this statement and the person who attended the call told us to ignore the statement. But, on the 1st day of the next month, Rs.200 was auto debited from our savings account.
We called up the call centre again, and we were told to send one more letter to cancel the auto pay option and to request them to credit back the Rs.200 to the savings account. Then I talked to their supervisor in the call centre who promised that he will credit the money within 3 working days. Calling up their call centre is another headache. To get their line, I may have to dial 10 times. After that I would be put on hold for 10 to 15 minutes. Since the money did not come back to the savings account after 3 days.
We called up the local branch and the head office again, and we were told to wait for another 3 days, and also send a letter to cancel the auto pay option. When we called them after 4 days, we were told that the amout has been credited and to check the account at the end of the day. But, for the next 3 days the money did not come to the account. So, at their head office the status was updated as if that the amount was reversed, but it was not actually done.
After several calls to their head office and local call center we got the amount reversed after 15 days.
