Back in the dim and distant past of my youth I did Actually HAVE Hair!
Oh, yes, I kid you not. But in common with many people, hair brought many troubles. Some people have lank, greasy hair – for others it’s the ‘fly-away’ problem that needs a touch of superglue to keep it from leaving without you. Then for many there is the ‘shake n vac’ syndrome – one shake of your hair and a whole torrent of white granules falls rather unceremoniously onto your shoulders, your clothes and finally the floor – Yes my friends DANDRUFF!
But what to do? In the old days – pre Satellite/Cable TV - (those of you long enough in the tooth will recall) – you just had to brush the problem under the carpet and be first with the vacuum cleaner to ‘hoover’ up your little worries.
It was worse for those of us who as well as having dandruff were also losing their hair. Yes you might well take a deep and shocked breath. Pre Satellite TV also meant ‘pre-Dyson’ too, so one shake of my head and our carpet would be covered with an inch thick coating of matted hair and assorted scrofula!
Not a pretty picture I’m painting is it?
But lo, what light from yonder window breaks? Yes it is a Shampoo company bearing gifts for the suffering masses – a magic elexir known as ‘Potion Number 9’ (not to be taken intravenously). Aha – was this the answer to our problems? Legions of dandruffees raced towards the nearest running tap, opened the bottle of magic elexir, wet hair generously, lather up – and wait.
It was like magic. This rather creamy, blue in colour, ‘shampoo’ I believe it was called, was the answer to many prayers. Just wash your hair each day in this wondrous ‘gift from the gods’ (not really a gift, an exchange of money did take place between buyer and chemist vendor, if I recall).
Those were the heady days of my youth. Now ‘Head and Shoulders’ has been available to the masses for many years. It has many imitators in ‘own brand’ versions – but the original is still the best. Well it would be, if ever I needed a shampoo rather than my usual quick buff up and shine with car wax and a chamois leather!
For those of you considering the purchase of this item I have completed considerable research and testing on behalf of you, my trusting reader. Although the product does come advertised as ‘2 in 1’ conditioner AND Shampoo, I would suggest that it’s use is confined solely to those suggested.
• It does NOT Work well as blue cheese dressing on Salad – believe me I did the ‘taste test’ – this is a NO NO.
• Do NOT use in Coffee or Tea as a Milk Substitute
• It can be used for removing tomato ketchup stains from T Shirts – but at around £3.50 for a large size, SOAP is much cheaper!
• ‘Head and Shoulders’ has little effect on men (or women) with bald heads. I’d suggest switching to ‘Shoulders’…..
• BACK ON A SERIOUS TRACK
This dandruff shampoo is excellent and does work. Be careful, as with all shampoos, do not get any in your eyes – it stings like Hell. Because of it’s formulation, it is stronger than the milder, ‘easily manageable’ shampoos on the market. Despite that it is safe to use for children and teens. You know how concerned they are at that age about personal appearance.
The conditioner does work too and it is good value for money, despite the many ‘own label’ versions mentioned earlier, also on the market. Look out for any Supermarkets doing ‘Buy One Get One Free’ offers and take advantage to stock up, if you find this works for you and your family.
Be advised though that this shampoo type does not suit everyone. If you find you get excess itchiness or other allergic reaction, please consult your doctor
