Living with Asthma

Approximately 17 million Americans suffer from asthma, including 4.8 million children and adolescents. Asthma is an inflammatory disorder of the airways with symptoms that include coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and difficult breathing. When someone with asthma is exposed to a trigger (such as cold air, animal dander, certain foods, or smoke) the airways in the lungs may become inflamed or swollen, leaving less room to breathe. Inflammation can be in full force before symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath even start. Once an individual has a reaction to one trigger, airways may become more sensitive to other triggers. There is no known cure for asthma.

However, with education and a good treatment plan, you can manage your condition successfully.  I have had asthma since I was little and throughout the years it had gotten worse.  With the wonderful treatment plan it has come a long way and still has a ways to go. I have learned to deal with it all my life.  It can be scary at times when having a hard time breathing but I now know there is a Lord above me and fear of nothing more.  If you have a loved one who has asthma, Please always make  sure they have their inhaler on them before leaving out the door with you.  I have learned my lesson.  I keep one in the bedroom, living room, bathroom and my backpack at all times.  Asthma cannot be taken lightly as it can be deadly causing a person to die. Thank you for reading. :=)
