Heroes - Every man thinks there is a hero in him, until he meets the real ones.
Heroes was neither the most awaited film not the most hyped film. This film was slated to release sometime last year. Delays happened but finally this arrived. I had interest in this movie right from the time the film was titled "Mera Bharat Mahaan".
Lets get on to the plot of the movie without wasting anytime. A story of 2 delhi youngsters Sameer Aka Saand ( Sohail Khan ) and Nawab Sahab aka Ali ( Vatsal Seth ) who are here to learn the art of film-making far away from thier homes. They are just like every 2nd youth today, confused and not serious about life at all. They flung the college exams and are assigned to make a film to complete thier graduation. They choose the topic " Why should you not join the Indian Army". They pick up thier 180 CC 13 BHP Bajaj Avenger which was released in 2003, ( while the film was set up in 2002 ) and go on thier pursuit.
They contact Mohnish Behl, A war journalist to help them who gives them three letters to be delivered to the families of three deceased in the Kargil War of 1999. They first end up in Punjab where they meet the family of GC Balkar Singh( Samlan Singh ). They meet the widow of Balkar, Kuljeet Kaur ( Preity Jhaant ) and understand her pain, and her PRIDE of loising her husband in the war.
Then they meet Vikram Shergil( Sunny Paaji ), the broher of Shaheed Dhananjay Shergill ( Bobby Paaji ) who himself has lost his leg in the war. They understand the pain which Vikram deinies but one thing again was very evident - Pride.
Sahil Naqvis ( Dino Morea ) family is equally in pain where his mother ( Shefali Chayya ) has accepted the truth that her son died in the war and she again is PROUD of the fact that her son died a martyrs life. Whilst Dr Naqvi ( Mithun Da ) is still not pleased with his dead son for not returning home and since then he has kept himself under a shell. Saand and Nawab Saab change his way of thinking and later Dr Naqvi also deicovers his pride.
The film that Saand and Nawab finally make if " Why should you join the Indian Army " and the obvoius answer will be " PRIDE".
The film has a great story line and its more like a documentary than a masala entertainer. The film packs the emotional punch with some really well made scenes and some stellar performances. The film has a dated look though but that has to be ignored.
Performaces : Almost all the performances have been good and Sameer Karnik has been able to extract something from everyone.
Salman suits the Sardar role except the Accent. If we ignore his accent he has performed like he dint do in the last 5-6 years.
Sunny Paaji is the best when it comes to expressing anger. He expressed the anger in the fight and the anguish of losing his brother pretty well.
Bobby and Dino are good in thier small roles.
Shefali and Mithun Da ar exceptional. Wath mithun dai in the rugby match. He has stirred a great performance there.
Sohail and Vatsal both suit thier characters and give thier best.
Direction: Directorially, it is the best film directed by Samir Karnik. He has shown a lot of improvement since his last 2 outings and he has handeled a tough subject pretty confidentallty.
Music - Nothing much to talk about exept Mannataa which was great.
Overall - A good film, which could have been a little more better with the trimming and even the cinematograhy could have imprroved.
Rating - 3.5 out of 5.
