Contrived comedy

Hey Baby is another of those mediocre comedies our multiplex audience have taken a liking to, after a slew of successes in the names of Hungama, Kya Kool hain hum, Masti and Golmaal. Toilet humour is heavily endorsed and appreciated by youngsters. They find it enjoyable and funny.Thank God the greatHrishikesh Mukherjee isn’t amongst us to witness all this. He would have gone into coma quite easily.

The focus should shift to Sajid Khan now - the man who used to make fun and complete mockery of films that were either flawed or utter rubbish. After this film, he should realize that film-making isn’t such an easy task and its easier to pinpoint others’ mistakes but equally difficult to make a good film.

He showed some promise in one of the six stories of Darna Zaroori hai but he falls flat this time. The film tries too hard to be funny. Though it raises some chuckles regularly, but comedy is forced in many portions and scenes are irrelevant, out of place and illogical. Actors like Boman Irani are made to look like fools and the film is one big crushing bore in its emotional quotient. An illogical comedy is fine but when you’re trying too hard to make something sensible when it comes to playing with the audience’ emotions (that effort shows), you have to convince the viewer. Well, the film doesn’t. And the three guys’ longing for their baby girl in second half doesn’t move you.

Akshay as mentioned, is the one who’s got the funniest lines. And he delivers them with panache. But its still an embarassing to see him cry.

Fardeen is the surprise package and this guy can be a fine comic actor . I saw glimpses of that in No entry. He delivers quite a likeable performance.

Ritesh is okay but more was expected from him.

Boman is wasted and Vidya dissappoints.

Overall, a below average film. I wish I had gone to watch Chak de India the third time rather than watching this
