Film of cliches

Director:John Polson.

Cast: Robert De Niro, Dakota Fanning, Famke Janssen.

Imaginary friends can sometimes seem so real......For Emily Callaway (Dakota Fanning), her games with an imaginary friend named Charlie have become anything but simple and innocent. Instead, she finds herself in the middle of a series of increasingly nightmarish acts that even her father David (Robert De Niro) cannot stop.

Psychologist David( De Niro) moves to the country with his daughter Emily(Fanning) when his wife commits suicide. Unable to cope with her mother’s death, Emily finds an imaginary friend Charlie.

When disturbing things start happening, at first graffiti but later gruesome murders, Emily blames her new friend.

Can anyone unravel the mystery before Charlie’s anger tears the family apart? What was Robert De Niro doing in this chiller-by-numbers, so full of cliches it’s amazing there was time for a plot?

Mysterious neighbours, creepy locals, one beautiful woman to die tragically and another to save the day fill out a cast of unbelievable, corny characters. That’s Hide and Seek for you.

The twist will surprise you, but only as no matter how many times you’ve seen it in other films, it can’t possibly follow from what’s gone before here.

If you’re invited to see this film, hide.
