Old model ambassador

I like the old model of ambassador. It runs on petrol. It gives a mileage of around 8 to 10 km per litre. It is quite spacey in both the front and the back. It handles quite well upto around 80km/hr. But after that corners can be a bit difficult. But it is okay on straight stretches even above 80km/hr.

I like the simple engine even though there is a problem nowadays with finding some genuine spare parts. But most parts can be fashioned with good lathes.

If properly tuned, the engine will run very very silently(silent even outside the cabin).

It can be repaired in most parts of the country (even in rural areas) Usually the older mechanics are better.

I have also ridden in the new models of ambassador (usually taxis). They are also okay. But I personally like the old models.

Of the new generation cars I think only the lancer, ikon are comparable in terms of space in the rear seat. I do not think the Tata Indica has as much space in the rear compared with the ambassador even though the Tata Indica is much better than the Maruti.

But I think all the new generation cars have better mileage (I am not all that sure of that).

There are some slight problems with rust but usually a good coat of paint (properly done to the undercarriage (chassis etc) ) and regular washing off of mud prevents it to a large extent.
