In the scorching Indian summer one thing and only one thing keeps you cool .Thats the AC. we Indians should be extra thankful to whoever innovated it. Anyways one needs to be extra careful while selecting one. I bought an 1.5 ton split AC from Hitachi two months ago and have been quite satisfied with its performance.I did a lot of market study before going for this one. These are the following points you need to stress on while looking for an AC.
1. Whats the size of the room? An 1 ton AC can roughly cool 100 -120 sqft room.An 1.5 ton is enough for a 150-180 sqft room .So on and So forth.
2. The main component of the AC is the compressor.Whatever brands of AC are there in the Indian market have compressors either from Techumseh(A US company) or from Hitachi.Only Hitachi and Samsung ACs have Hitachi compressors and Samsung has an older version. Th Hitachi compressor is widely regarded as the better one because of its tolerance to extreme heat. The company claims It will work till the external temperature touches 52 degrees.
3. Then comes affordability. How much you are willing to shed for the AC?But its a little tricky here. You might go for a cheaper one like Onida, Voltas, Electrolux , LG etc which are available in the range of 18-24ks but you will feel the pinch later while paying your electricity bills. For a BlueStar or an Hitachi you will pay more but they are a lot more power-saving. The Hitachi (I dont remember the brand name) cost me 33ks but is really power saving to an extent of 40% more than compared to others.
One more thing you have to see if a window Ac will suit the room (You need a lot of space for that.otherwise probably have to do away with a window.) Going for a window Ac will reduce the cost a lot . The Hitachi 1.5 ton window Ac wcosts probably around 24/25.
Hope you guys keep these things in mind while going for an AC and dont get fooled by misleading commercials.
