Hey its Hit(ch)

Yesterday (mi weekend), pesky Vinita (my friend) called me and suggested we will go for a movie and even before the idea registered in my mind she said, we will go to Al fananr (theatre) to watch “Hitch”. Me a person dunked in the pool of ignorance about movies wanted to act as a smart Alec; made an intelligent guess and said “Vinita why do we have to watch a horror movie”. She giggled and rejoined snappishly “karthik it’s a Will’s Smith movie. “Oh it’s a action movie is it?” She guffawed enough to inflate my chagrin. To escape the oubliette of embarrassment had only one exit of eating a humble pie and say “Okay tell me about it”. She replied that it is a comedy movie and said she has read good review about it.

I like only two types of movies, either it has to be a different movie anything bereft of crazy hero chasing heroine behind the trees or a full length comedy movie. Hitch fit my bill and even before my brain deliberated about the option, my reflex thoughts conveyed an unequivocal “yes “to her and promised to see her at a common point to head to the theatre.

Then……we watched the movie and we came out (Where is the review?……hold on)

Me and Vinita had a big fight when we came out of the movie. She couldn’t stand the panegyric I launched about the movie. What is the reason? she didn’t like the movie in equal measure I liked it. Why? What could be the reason? Yes you are right as in any skirmishes between a guy and a girl it all summarily boiled down to male chauvinism, lack of understanding girl /female sex in general by men, cheating a girl, soured relationship due to incongruent way of life, thinking…..blah blah.

Taking in my stride of all the name calling she did (Didn’t you trade any? No no Im a decent guy you see) let me tell you about the movie and the reason for our squabble.(Actually it was a big fight)

Many of us meet a people of opposite sexes at various walks of our life (Wow how original isn’t it?)

A few, of whom we meet, we want to befriend them and one (or a few) we would like to marry. Do we assess whether the guy/girl is someone with whom we could live for the rest of our life and both of us would be compatible with each other? (may be yes, but in general no). The halo effect of a particular feature blind folds us and burgeons the feeling of desperateness that makes us feel how indispensable, he/she is? So how do we accomplish what we want? Very simple, do what he/she likes and project for ourself a picture that is completely devoid of our true self.

Hitch is a comedy flick that enumerates the instances, where people (guyz) of different facet woo people (women) of their choice and do all those things that attract their targets all told in a funny way and funnily. Like a fat employee trying to impress her female boss, the libido of a bald man, etc (not worth giving you any details)

But how do these guys woo the gullible girls? Allow me to go off track again

During my college days, my friend Abhishek was always remembered of his visage with a Band-Aid. Why? He used to be seen with the girls who where crushed by guys who had a crush on them. Didn’t understand? Guys royally beat him, when he is seen around with a girl, who they liked. A nouveau agreement forced these belligerent guys to enter in to truce with Abhishek.

Yes, Abhishek started helping these guys, by advising the strategies to adopt to woo these girls and give his expert interpretation of the esoteric acts of these girls. Like, if this girl turns back now she loves you or if she comes to this place by this time, if she wears a color that you like and et all. Presaging there acts like, she will throw her hanky now, she expects to say this, she expects you to behave/react this way etc.

Now the hero Will smith, is a self-anointed consultant, discharging the professional service to his clients, whose role exactly matches with the honorary service performed by my friend Abhishek, for a consideration.

The movie revolves around him, his clients and the credulous girls who fall in love instantly for the well-orchestrated deeds of their lovers. All the ingenious ideas of our hero Will’s Smith works extremely well with the ingenuous girls, giving the audience some cool hilarious time.

The role of Kevin James is well alloyed by juxtaposing the attitude of a guy who is die-hard obstinate towards the female of his choice and the needed comedy effect to enthrall the audience. He occupies a considerable screen space and perches a place in our mind enough to pop-out when we think of the movie

Some of the scenes made me laugh uproariously, having an air of unconcern about people around. But my altruistic instincts for people around quelled when I witnessed them laughing equally uproarious, including Vinita.

Oh that reminds me, to tell you why Vinita didn’t like the movie, I’m not gonna give you the details but you must have got the clue.

A close scrutiny of any movie would make one aware of all the unrealistic, utopian nature of the story line. But it would be a grave mistake to do that for a movie that was just intended to be a full-length comedy purely meant to entertain. Hitch is a movie that fits hand in glove in this category.

Oh I realize that I haven’t made a mention about the other cast, direction and all the people behind the scenes. I could have paid a little attention at the beginning and end of the movie and registered a few names to use liberally as part of this review and give an impression that they are like my next-door neighbors and I know them inside out. Quite honestly don’t know any of them, nor recollect seeing any of them in recent movies I have seen.

Nevertheless the intention is not to undermine their performances, they did enough justice for the roles played by them.

Without much further deliberation go watch “Hitch” in the next show, just to unwind yourself.
