HMT, once the only watch making company of India. For long they enjoyed the advantages of the monopolistic policies of our govt. and sold sub-standard watchtes to Indians. Then came economic liberlisation and they suffered due to their own follies. With the advent of TITAN and other international brands, HMT watches were quickly shown the door by us (consumers).
Yet it appears as if they have not learnt from their mistakes. They produce a meager collection of less than 250 models. All their models are poor in quality. The finish is atrocuious. There are hardly any models, that can be considered Trendy. The only thing good about their watches is accuracy of time..but only until the watch lasts. Most models develope problems within two or three months of purchase. HMT probably doesnt know the SPELLING of Customer Service leave aside rendering any. Whts more? Would you believe?...out of the 230 odd models they produce, more than 100 are vintage Hand winding and about 25 are not-so-vintage rotary Automatic type. Funny though is, that, these are the watches that are comparatively trouble-free. Hey! that gives me an idea...It might be a good idea to buy one of their handwinding watches as an Antique.
As for the question whether they have anything to compete with TITAN?...Need I answer...
