Gone are the days that we lived in the glory of the past ....that we had very good players, we used to be no.1 in this sport etc.etc.
What Indian hockey requires is a total revamp
1)Make IHF an autonomous body like the board of control for cricket in India
2)Market the game to the corporates for sponsorship
3)Educate the children at school level on the finer aspects of the game
4)Generate interest in this sport among the kids because they the future players in the making ( frankly one comes to know about hockey only in college) baring a few schools which teach this sport.
5)Get adequate infrastructure like astro turfs etc., available at 2 centres in all the states,
6)Throw the ego out of the window and take help of foreign coaches, experts, physio and psycho analysts to develop the players
7)The game is undergoing change rapidly we need to be in tandem with the happenings
8)create experts in penalty corners etc.by giving specialised training
9)Conduct zonal tournaments at school and college levels to identify talent and nurture them
10)Let past and senior players handle Indian Hockey Federation
11)IHF should create good publicity for the sport, get the crowds back to the stadia and try to get more revenue rather than have internal fights over trivial matters
I am no expert in this but what our IHF needs is professionalism .
