No, filmmakers dont have any rights to subject this to Bollywood fans time and again! Thats the feeling I get half through the viewing of a cliched love story called Holiday .
Predictable to the core, Holiday offers nothing, apart from some real melodious music by Vishal-Shekhar, that allows viewers to appreciate their outing to some extent. Being stuck to a formula is fine as more often than not it works, but if you do not disguise the formula with deft execution, chances are high that the movie may turn out to be utter run of the mill. This is what happens in the case of Holiday. Actually nothing happens in first half of this enterprise but here are false hopes of drama being upped to a level when oonjlee meets with Dino . There is an immediate thought of what now? But soon this too gets diluted and the movie continues to drag along. After every 15 minutes, one expects a twist, but to no avail.
All this while the dialogues, especially in the second half take you all the way back to the 60s-70s. In nutshell, no respite in either departments. Thankfully, the music comes as relief after every 10 minutes and each of the 7-8 songs in the film are actually quite welcome.
To give credit to the director Pooja, she tries to pep up the proceedings with a few good scenes here and there but they are so far and few [and subsequently surrounded by predictable stuff] that the sheen is lost.
Cinematography is good only for the songs portion while elsewhere it is inconsistent and lacks gloss. Dialogues are just about average while the length of the movie just being fine.
Dino enacts his part well but is let down by poor characterization.Oonjlee is a disappointment with her introvert act. She maintains one single _expression throughout the movie - whether she is happy, sad, lovey-dovey, cunning, concerned, angry - she just doesnt change. Agreed that she is shown to be an introvert and but still some reaction is still expected.
Nauheed is fine as a plain Jane and one wishes if there was more of her. Kashmira brings a smile on whenever she is on screen and surprises with an uninhibited exposure. Gulshan is good.
Holiday disappoints and that too in a major way.
